Five Shy Meerkat tours
Five Shy Meerkat Tours – Original Tours Since 2004
The most popular of our activities we offer are without a doubt the daily wild habituated meerkat tours. These tours that commence only at sunrise are dependent on fair weather, since these little creatures will not venture outside their burrows on cold and rainy days. (No tours on rainy days & Christmas day).
Meerkats are part of the so-called Shy 5 which also includes the bat-eared fox, the aardvark, porcupine and aardwolf.
The meerkat tours last between 2-3 hours and booking is essential. Upon arrival at the meerkat burrows, guests are treated to a hot cup of coffee, after which they are issued with a lightweight aluminium chair to sit in while observing the meerkats as they come out of the burrow into the sunshine and then go about their daily routine of foraging and frolicking. These habituated wild animals are never fed or handled by humans.
Tours are presented by JD Glinister, and his team. It is a fantastic experience & unique privilege to get this close to these little creatures in the wild.

De Zeekoe has all the “ingredients” for a great restaurant: a beautiful setting with great views; skirted by an expanse of lawn and views of the Outeniqua mountains.
At De Zeekoe our food philosophy is using fresh, local ingredients and preparing them simply delicious and deliciously simple. Fresh herbs are picked daily from our garden and used in most of the dishes we serve. We prepare and produce our own olives and honey (when in season).
In the kitchen we prefer homemade products as far as possible. We make our own olive paste, bake bread and prepare our own sauces. The produce we can’t make or grow ourselves, we source locally. Since the area is known for its ostriches, we try and do our best to introduce this very healthy and delicious meat to our guests.
On this menu we strive to provide a balanced variety of meals, taking into account the dietary needs of all our guests. Included are gluten free vegetarian options made with superfood, that can replace any type of meat, even on a meat lovers plate! We continually test new recipes and new ideas to keep our menu fresh.

Adding to your comfort is an eco-bathroom upstairs so there is no need to leave your platform above the landscape. For those looking for a truly unrivaled experience, be sure to leave the front section of the roof open so that you can enjoy the stars on a clear night from your bed or cover up in case of the threat of rain with the retractable canvass roof. You may be lucky to hear hyenas, a leopard or lions calling or the nocturnal birds like owls and nightjars piercing the night.
As our guest, you will be escorted to the dam shortly before sunset, with our guide detailing the evening ahead before leaving you alone to enjoy the tranquility and privacy of this amazing addition to the Motswari portfolio until the following morning. Drinks and a delicious simple dinner will be provided for you to enjoy.

Giraffe’s Nest offers all the comfort and indulgence of Geiger’s Camp, with sumptuous beds and cosy chairs on the viewing deck, as well as an eco-bathroom, so there’s no need to climb down from your platform above the bush. To feel truly seamless with nature, you can leave the front section of the roof open to gaze at the canopy of stars from your bed while listening to the calls of hyena, lion and nightjar. If rain is coming, you simply cover up with the retractable canvas roof.

Beautifully appointed in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, Idube offers a safari chic experience with a plethora of wildlife. The Lodge comprises of Suites and Safari Chalets, all individually decorated and furnished with air conditioning, indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a private deck. The public areas feature a dining area serving delectable cuisine, a gym, the luxury of massage therapy at the Bush Spa as well as an appealing swimming pool surrounded by exuberant trees and the bush plains in the distance. Well-known for their incredible leopards’ sightings, Idube includes Game Drives and Bush Walks in the reserve with a knowledgeable guide. All suites at Idube Game Reserve are now luxury suites and included in these 14 beautiful suites are our Safari Suites. These 8 private suites all feature a screened entrance off our raised walkways, a private deck/patio with views of the bush, private plunge pool, modern bathroom with a granite indoor/outdoor shower (and glass roof), separate WC, mosquito nets over the bed, African-inspired decor, which bring in the suite’s theme, minibar, coffee station, fan, air-conditioning, mosquito nets on windows and doors, hair dryer and safe. Each suite is accessible from a raised walkway that passes through the trees and has no suite in front of it for unobstructed views of the South African bush.

Like the Makubela Suites on the East, 2 of our Safari Suites are at the far end of the West walkway, allowing privacy and distance from the main area, but can also be screened off at the entrance if you’d like the suites to be inter-leading.

While all of our suites are luxury suites, the 2 Makubela suites still retain their name and original charm even after some upgrades. These suites are named for a leopard once prowling the area, have amazing views over the bush from their private decks. The location of the suites away from the more public areas of the lodge, makes them especially tranquil and perfect for romance or a special occasion.
Each suite has its own well-stocked mini bar, coffee and tea station, bath, inside and revitalising outside showers, hairdryer, safe, air conditioning and wi-fi. Don’t worry about mosquitoes as nets cover all windows and doors as well as the beds themselves. You can’t help but relax in these sumptuous settings at Idube Game Reserve. We have 4 Linked suites, which are very similar to our Safari Suites and have all the same features, but are configured with families and groups in mind. Two separate and private rooms are connected by a shared patio/deck and a slightly larger pool is shared between the 2 units. These suites are ideal if you’re looking to socialise with friends or make memories with family.

There is an early morning game drive and a late afternoon / evening game drive over an area of approximately 24700 acres 910 000 hectares).
Guests can expect to see some, if not all of the Big 5 as well as many other species of game and some of the over 300 species of birds.
Animals are usually seen from very close quarters, the sighting is professionally handled and controlled. Drives are normally 3 to 4 hours long, with a stop along the way for tea, coffee or sundowners. Idube is particularly well known for the frequent and excellent sightings of leopards - a photographer's dream come true.
After breakfast, a morning guided walk is offered or guests can relax around the pool or on their decks.
Idube is a birder’s paradise, both at the lodge itself and on safaris and bush walks. There are over 400 species of birds for guests to discover and photograph throughout the reserve.
During your stay, you might be lucky enough to see ostriches or the endangered ground hornbill. Our visitors are also fascinated by our many species of raptors including vultures and eagles.
Around the lodge we have resident Guinea Fowl, Hornbills, Starlings, Grey Go-Away Birds and many more.
Idube Game Reserve is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo, with thrilling leopard sightings often being the highlight of our visitor’s stays.
An extensive array of wildlife can seen throughout Idube’s traversable area and these include giraffe, impalas, zebras, wildebeest, hyaenas and jackals, to name but a few. Both crocodiles and hippos move long distances to find new dams or to move to a river, so it’s always a nice surprise when they are spotted. Within the lodge itself we have had a herd of resident Nyala that have been around as long as we can remember, you’ll also see vervet monkeys, squirrels, and possibly waterbuck and warthog.
