Ekorian’s Mugie Camp | Mugie Wildlife Conservancy
Ekorian’s Mugie Camp offers the freedom to rekindle the soulful relationship we each have with the wild.
Experiences here span beyond just a safari. Ekorian greets you with a warm, genuine welcome to this exquisite slice of the natural world. It brings to life the vision that Josh and Donna had when they built the camp: a retreat from the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the 'real world', and a reconnection with nature.
To bring you an organic, authentic safari, Ekorian fuses luxury with sustainability, and comfort with responsibility.
The camp’s innovative design is eco-friendly and blends into its environment, enabling you to feel immersed in the vivid details that surround you - the sights, the sounds, the smells.
Ekorian's Mugie Camp feels like a tent away from home, and caters to the whole family, everything from our family-style dining to our wide range of activities. Camp is composed of six accommodation tents (each raised on wooden decks and covered with a papyrus roof), a communal mess tent for sitting and dining, a reception area, a shady deck adjoining the swimming pool (overlooking a watering hole), all surrounding a spacious lawn dotted with native aloe and flower beds. The camp is surrounded by a stonewall and electric fence, which allows you walk around camp, and children to play safely, without a worry.
Various activities in camp keep everyone occupied during down-time, such as volleyball, bird watching, traditional archery, spear throwing, and lawn games, as well as our trampoline and fresh water, chemical-free swimming pool.
Each of our tents is en-suite with hot running water and flush toilets, and can be configured to be a twin or double arrangement. Tent one is nearest to the mess tent and has a kids' annex, so it is perfect for families.
The camp is eco-conscious (and 'silver' eco rated by the Kenya eco-tourism board) and uses solar power (we can't accommodate hair dryers or electric razors), and as we make every effort to minimize our use of plastic products, we do not supply bottled water, instead we collect rainwater and boil and filter it for drinking. We supply reusable water bottles on the game drives and recycled wine bottles of drinking water in the rooms. We use recycled glass bottles for drinking glasses made by a local artisan. The soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion that we supply are eco-friendly and free of chemicals.
We do laundry daily - all laundry is hand washed and dried in the sun

Whether watching the elephants come down to drink and swim while you're kayaking, or a herd of giraffe while sipping a ‘sundowner’ at the iconic Sundowner Tree, or buffalo wander past while you're sitting at the pool – wildlife viewing is abundant and breathtaking. We have three game viewing vehicles from which guests can take in the varied flora and fauna. The hundreds of bird species that reside on Mugie – whether permanent or seasonal residents – mean that there is never a dull moment. Migratory species from the northern hemisphere flock here between November and April. In addition to watching wagtails, weavers, sunbirds, and many, many more, we have four species of owl in camp!
Game driving is just a small part of your safari adventure. Go for a walk through the bush with our experienced guides and get a full sensory experience; see the insects, smell the earth, touch the grasses, hear the calls, and savour being with nature. Stop off for a bush meal, or take a camel ride. Fishing on the Dam is also great way to spend the afternoon.
The Mugie dam has a surface area of 156 acres which gives us a great opportunity to enjoy a special "game drive" from a different angle - our Kayaks.
All our Kayaks are very user friendly and very stable for anyone to be able to enjoy this activity. One can often see game coming to the water during the heat of the day and in the drier seasons we quite regularly see Elephant also enjoying a good swim. An early morning or late afternoon kayak is very peaceful as you soak in the sights, sounds and smells from water level. Catfish, Tilapia and some Black Bass provide enjoyable fishing.
Mugie has great bird life, to date Ekorians bird count is over 200 species with some great migrants passing through in the months of November through to March/April. The massive Mugie dam attracts increasing numbers of waterbirds. Right In the Ekorians Mugie Camp grounds we often see a great variety of birds including four different Owls species.
Mugie has two bloodhounds, specifically trained for scent tracking and used to track poachers or thieves on Mugie, neighboring ranches, and throughout Kenya. Local heroes, they are amazing dogs to watch work; guests can enjoy a walk with the hounds and demonstration of their skills.
Mugie Trading Stock has brought about a new era of community livestock management, based on the premise of shared resources. This is a program unique to Mugie, it's a program from which all parties benefit and furthers conservation, environmental and ecological conscientiousness.
Enjoy your time in the bush to the very fullest extent with a Bush Breakfast (we recommend arriving to it on a camel!) under the shade of an acacia, or a picnic lunch next to the dam as you see the wildlife coming to drink and cool off in the mid-day heat. Or have sundowners and a picnic dinner, with a drive back to camp to see which of Mugie's nocturnal residents you can see.
Visits to the nearby Samburu or Pokot villages of either Suguta Marma or Loinyek, will give insight to the traditional ways of life here; while Mugie School highlights the valued opportunity of formal education
Mugie Ranch is home to Kenya’s northern-most golf course – set amongst African Olive Trees, a beautifully designed and landscaped course challenges even the experienced golfer. Whether playing a round or simply having a picnic here and enjoying the sweeping view, a visit is always worthwhile. The course is fenced from wildlife so guests can enjoy a walk or a jog around the grounds, and children can play freely. Included in the Green Fee is a golf club and ball rental, though you are welcome to bring your own.

Macushla House | Nairobi
Charmed by the warmth and hospitality of the Irish on a visit to the Emerald Isle, in the last century,
the founder of Macushla House (Gaelic for ‘my beloved’) opened the doors to those seeking the
natural joys of life. The house is surrounded by indigenous bushland and offers privacy and space in an informal atmosphere. Public areas are home to an eclectic celebration of artifacts from countries as far flung as Yemen to Australia. Birdsong and wind chimes accompanied by flowing water from the swimming pool dragon are part of the daily concert.
