Located in a quiet, slightly elevated area above Hakone Yumoto, it enjoys lovely views of the surrounding wooded hillsides, yet remains conveniently close to the station via a short taxi or shuttle ride.
The hotel features two distinct wings: the “Yamanochaya” building, with spacious rooms that blend contemporary design and soft Japanese elements, and the “Hanaoritei” building, which offers more classically styled tatami rooms, some with private open-air baths. Interiors are minimalist yet warm, using natural woods and muted tones that create a soothing, understated atmosphere. Rooms are well-sized, thoughtfully equipped, and many overlook lush green scenery or seasonal colours—especially stunning during cherry blossom or autumn foliage seasons.

Guests can enjoy large communal indoor and open-air onsen baths, where steaming mineral waters and fresh mountain air combine for a deeply restorative experience. A few rooms also feature their own private outdoor baths, adding a special layer of privacy and luxury.
The dining experience is another star attraction. The ryokan serves beautifully crafted kaiseki dinners in a stylish restaurant space, showcasing Hakone’s seasonal bounty with multiple delicate courses. Breakfasts are equally delightful, offering a satisfying start to the day with both Japanese and Western touches.
Service at Aura Tachibana is warm and attentive, striking a lovely balance between traditional ryokan hospitality and unobtrusive modern professionalism. Staff are helpful with local tips, transport arrangements, and small thoughtful touches that enhance the stay.
