Fundudzi Cultural Camp | Limpopo

Visitors to Fundudzi have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a beautiful environment. In a hugely fertile valley with modern tea plantations, the real gems are the natural areas with forests, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. The area is well populated with rural villages and tourists will be spoilt for choice visiting crafters, manufacturers of Minwenda (traditional Venda clothing), Malungu (traditional beads) and Makunda (traditional bangles). For those wanting a closer understanding of some of the local rituals, a demonstration of the Domba Dance (python dance) can be pre-arranged for evening entertainment at Fundudzi.

Fundudzi Cultural Camp has 5 stand-alone thatched rondavels, each with two ¾ beds, chairs and a bedside stand. This needs to be arranged at the time of booking. Ablutions are en-suite, with flush toilets, shower and basins. The kitchen, dining and camp-fire facilities are communal, and you will share a gas hob and camp fire for cooking, as well as fridge and freezer for storage of food. The necessary pots, crockery & cutlery are also supplied. Catering by local villagers can be arranged – please pre-order when booking. There is no electricity, and paraffin or solar lanterns are provided for light at night. If self-catering, don’t forget to bring firewood.

Zwakala River Retreat | Magoebaskloof

Zwakala River Retreat is a perfect place to chill and get away from the stress of the city life. Our Limpopo self catering accommodation is simply beautiful and in some of the accommodation we have chosen not to have electricity. Instead we believe that the simplicity of candle light and lamps, steaming hot water from a donkey boiler and a 'lekka' fire make for romance, talking, dreaming and togetherness. For those of you who need electricity for reasons of your own, our newly renovated Farm House and The Barn House are connected.

Shingwedzi Main Camp | Northern Kruger

Centered in a quiet clearing along the banks of the Shingwedzi River, this eponymous camp provides a well balanced offering of luxury holiday and authentic, outdoor camping trip.

Shrouded in mopane trees, the area produces sightings of waterbuck, nyala, kudu, and elephant, as well as a variety of bird species. While the river does dry up in summer months, animal sightings are more frequent in winter as groups challenge each other over quickly disappearing pools left in the wake of the disappearing river.

Lower Sabie Rest Camp | Southern Kruger

With its soothing riverine views and Lebombo Mountain skyline in the background, the Lower Sabie Restcamp hugs the banks of the perennial Sabie River in the Kruger National Park. The camp is an exhibition of the natural wealth of the area, surrounded by lush green vegetation and attracting a multitude of game which can easily be spotted from the deck overlooking the water. The river itself, enveloped by abundant foliage, is populated by cormorants, herons, kingfishers and storks.

In the lazy midday heat, lions can be found resting alongside the hippos which wallow on the riverbanks in the cool shade of large riverine trees like the Fever Tree, Round-leaved Teak and sycamore fig. Early morning game drives are an opportunity to spot lion, cheetah, elephant, rhino and buffalo among others, and there’s no better way to end a morning drive than by enjoying a sumptuous bush breakfast in idyllic settings. Nthandanyati Bird Hide overlooks the habitat of the Marabou and Black Storks, as well as the Grey Heron, Little Bee-eaters, Hammerkop and Open-billed Storks. Sunset drives show off the bush as it comes alive at night, with a myriad of nocturnal species which begin to hunt as the moon starts to rise.

Campsites, safari tents, a range of bungalows and a commodious guest house make up the accommodation at Lower Sabie camp. At night, the lodge screens entertaining films on wildlife and conservation and during the hot summer days, refreshing dips in the swimming pool will keep guests cool. From the deck of the Ingwe Restaurant visitors can enjoy an authentic African dining experience, accompanied by an excellent selection of South African wines, while taking in the view of the river over breakfast, lunch or dinner.

With nothing to do except indulge in the serenity of the landscape and the luxury provided by the camp, guests will be able to bask in a truly relaxing experience. Whether going on adventurous bush walks or game drives, or simply soaking in the majestic views and wildlife spectacles that unfold along the banks of the river, guests of the Lower Sabie Restcamp will experience an unforgettable African getaway.
