10-Day Family Mobile Adventure Safari

Oddballs' is situated on the edge of Chief's Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango, bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only. On arrival, you are met at the airstrip by your personal guide and welcomed to the island. He remains your guide for the duration of your stay.

Accommodation is in simple, comfortable canvas 3m x 3m rooms (including two family units) set on elevated wooden decks, each with a view of the surrounding bush, and shaded by canvas shelters. Each tent has its own rustic en-suite facilities including hot and cold running water for the al fresco bucket shower – in true safari style.

Oddballs’ offers no motorised activities. Each guide has his own mokoro (pl. mekoro), (the genuine wooden article, not the plastic replica), in which he’ll take you gliding through the Okavango to nearby islands, where he’ll walk you through magnificent scenery to view game, birds, insects, medicinal plants, tracks, signs, droppings, and other fascinating natural phenomena.

Our guides are locals - this is a man of the swamp, born and raised in the area, and you will spend your days walking under his guidance on some of the many islands in the area, taking in the magnificent scenery and light as well as the abundant game and bird-life of the Okavango.

Cultural interaction at an authentic baYei village

For guests staying a minimum of four nights, Oddballs’ Camp also offers privately guided overnight camping trails by mokoro, for a minimum of two nights – although they recommend three or more to get the best out of this unique safari. The trails are amongst the most sought-after wilderness experiences in the world today, offering an opportunity to experience life in serenity and on its own terms in a way not easily achieved in the modern world.

The mobile safaris cover seven prime wildlife areas of northern Botswana – the Xaxanaxa regions of the Moremi Game Reserve, Xakanaxa is in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta. The Xakanaxa region of the Moremi Game Reserve consistently rewards visitors with fantastic wildlife sightings. Permanent water along with varied drier vegetation zones, create some unexpected contrasts that support the wide range of species that inhabit this area. Experience excellent views of savannah game including red lechwe, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena, African Wild Dogs, as well fantastic bird-watching on the lagoons.

The mobile camp will be set up by the team in an exclusive campsite in the community area. The camp has fully equipped dome tents. The tents are equipped with two stretchers, mattresses, bedding, towels and lights. Each tent has its own rustic en-suite al fresco bush shower and bush toilet with hot water for the bush bucket showers and wash basins.

Meals will be prepared by the camp chef and served in the dining tent- a classic mobile safari. During the stay there will be exploration in the Moremi Game Reserve on game drives during the day and afternoon. Moremi is amongst the best game reserves in Africa for viewing the endangered African wild dog. It is home to the resident herd of several buffalo whose range cover the territories of many prides of lion which may be seen flanking the ever-moving herds. Breeding herds of elephant move between their browsing areas and the Mopane Forests and the fresh water of the Okavango.
