The primary activity at Primate Lodge is chimpanzee trekking, with the starting point located just minutes away, making early morning departures particularly easy. This is why we love Primate Lodge. Kibale is renowned for its high density of primates, and guests often have excellent sightings not only of chimpanzees but also of red colobus, black-and-white colobus and other species. The chimpanzee habituation experience, which allows for extended time with a troop, is a highlight for many visitors. Additional activities include guided forest walks, birding excursions and visits to the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, known for its rich birdlife and community-based tourism initiatives.

Primate Lodge is located within Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda, close to the town of Fort Portal. Its position inside the forest and near the main visitor centre makes it one of the most convenient lodges for chimpanzee trekking. Access is typically part of an extended Uganda safari or directly via road, around five to six hours from Kampala or Entebbe. Often combined with other destinations in western Uganda such as Queen Elizabeth National Park. For those flying, charter flights can be arranged to nearby airstrips followed by a shorter road transfer.

Elephant Plains Lodge is a relatively new, upmarket safari lodge set on one of the most dramatic viewpoints in Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. Perched high on the western escarpment of the Albertine Rift, the lodge looks out over sweeping savannah plains towards Lake George, with particularly wide, open views that give it a real sense of space and scale. Its position near Lake Kikorongo, where elephants and buffalo regularly come down to drink, adds to the appeal, and being just a short drive from the park gate and the Kasenyi Plains makes it a very convenient base for exploring this wildlife-rich sector of the park. 

The lodge has been built to blend into its surroundings, using locally sourced materials and traditional techniques such as thatched roofing, giving it a soft, natural feel rather than a polished or overly contemporary look. The layout follows the ridge line, with cottages spaced out along the escarpment to maximise privacy and uninterrupted views. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, with open-sided communal areas that take full advantage of the cooling breezes and panoramic outlook, creating a classic safari lodge feel with a strong connection to the landscape. 

The rooms are spacious standalone cottages, including a mix of double/twin units and a couple of larger family cottages. Each is en-suite and designed to be light and airy, with large glass windows and private verandas facing out over the plains and lake below.  The main lodge facilities are centred around a large open lounge and bar area, with a separate dining space that extends onto an outdoor deck offering wide-angle views across the park. There is also a swimming pool set on the escarpment, ideal for relaxing during the middle of the day while still enjoying the scenery. 

Activities from Elephant Plains Lodge are focused on exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park, particularly the nearby Kasenyi Plains, which are one of the best areas in Uganda for classic savannah game viewing. Game drives are the core experience, with good chances of seeing lion, leopard, elephant and large herds of Uganda kob, along with prolific birdlife. In addition, guests can combine their stay with boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel, chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge, visits to Lake Katwe to see traditional salt mining, and cultural interactions with the local Kikorongo community. This variety makes it a well-rounded stop within a broader Uganda itinerary.

Buhoma Lodge is located in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, one of the most accessible regions of the park. Access is typically via a domestic flight from Entebbe to Kihihi Airstrip, followed by a road transfer of around one to two hours, or by a longer overland journey of approximately eight to nine hours from Kampala, often combined with other destinations such as Queen Elizabeth National Park.
