Dining at Legendary Lodge
As with any farmhouse, the kitchen tends to be the heart of the home, and Legendary Lodge is no exception. Our team of incredibly talented Tanzanian chefs will leave you wishing you had more space for another course. Using only the freshest ingredients and prepared with a large scoop of love, every meal will be an experience.
Breakfast is typically available from 6.30am but we are happy to arrange for it at your desired time. A selection of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts and pastries — baked that morning by our pastry chef — will be laid out. Your waiter will take a hot breakfast order.
Lunch and dinner offer three courses, with a choice for all courses.
Ensuring that your mealtime is an experience, enjoy the warmth of the sun when we move your lunch table into the gardens, or relax on the verandah at night, with gas heaters warming the air, and a throw around your shoulders.
We welcome you at the fire-place in the evenings for a pre-dinner drink: a chance for us to have a chat, but should you feel so at home that you would prefer to enjoy meals in your cottage, please just let the lodge manager know so that this can be arranged for you.
Legendary Lodge takes pride in tailor-making our menus wherever possible so that we are able to meet all your requests.

Mwiba Lodge | Mwiba Wildlife Reserve
Mwiba River Lodge opened in summer 2013 in the Mwiba Wildlife Reserve, a private area of 51,000 hectares to the west of the Serengeti National Park.
This is an area where the large herds of the Great Migration settle between December and early March for the calving season. As it is not in the Park, it is not subject to Park restrictions, so off-road driving, night drives and game walks are all permitted. It comprises eight spacious rooms all with a double bed and a sofa bed, and an inside and outside shower, and bathtub and a flush toilet. The rooms are spread out and are about a 2 minutes’ walk from each other, so everything is very private.
It is built overlooking the river, and it is sculptured into the natural rocks, especially in the public areas of the dining room and lounge bar. There is an infinity pool and a well-frequented waterhole. You can lie by the swimming pool and watch the wildlife activity at the wildlife pool; the lodge has 24/7 water and electricity.
At Mwiba River Lodge the tariff includes:
- Meals.
- Accommodation.
- Tea & coffee, -mineral water, soft drinks, house wine and beers and some spirits.
- All game activities, including night drives and game walks as well as regular game drives.
- Laundry
Chargeable at Mwiba River Lodge:
- Gratuities.
- Champagnes, Cognacs, Premium brand spirits, cellar wines, cigars and cigarettes.
Mwiba Lodge comprises 10 spacious and elegantly appointed suites, complete with a king-sized bed with a mosquito net and air conditioning, a lounge area, an outdoor deck, and an en-suite bathroom with a deep-soaking tub and both an indoor and outdoor shower.
Each of the suites can be adjusted to either a king, twin or triple configuration.
ADJOINING SUITES:
Of the 10 tented suites, 2 pairs are adjoining and suitable to accommodate guests who are travelling together.
These particular tented suites have been connected by wooden walkways to allow easy access between the suites, thus making them ideal for families traveling with children. The walkway would not be suitable for children of toddler age to pass across unattended.
Please note, however, that due to the rocky nature of the lodge, it is not recommended that children younger than 10 years of age stay in the adjoining suite without an older sibling, parent or adult.
Each tented suite is identical in its layout, the standard of furnishings is consistent, and both suites have sufficient privacy. Should two couples or adult guests traveling together wish to be accommodated close to each other, these adjoining suites are also perfectly appointed to be used as such. We will only ever accommodate guests from a combined party in the adjoining pairs of suites.
CHILDREN SHARING:
If a triple configuration is required, the sofa in the lounge area of the tented suite can be made up as an additional single bed. This is suitable to accommodate a child of 15 years or younger. In the event that the sofa is used as a bed, a portable mosquito net is hung.
The lodge has a portable cot available which can be used for an infant of 2 years or younger. It comes with a fitted mosquito net.
Guests staying at Mwiba Lodge have the option to experience a night under the stars in true expeditionary fashion. Fly-camping is the perfect off-grid getaway for those seeking a full immersion into the wilderness — without compromising comfort — and, with no distractions, get closer to nature than anywhere else.
For couples, fly-camping offers a truly remote and romantic experience, and for families or groups of friends, this makes for an unforgettable adventure with nothing but canvas between you and the wild.
A bucket shower with warm water and a long drop loo are available to guests while fly-camping, and there is also the option to arrive or depart via a bush walk.

At Mwiba, taking the opportunity to get out on foot is highly recommended. The terrain lends itself to walking, and the chance to get out of the vehicle, stretch one's legs, and zone in on the smaller things is one to be embraced.
Walks are always accompanied by an armed ranger, and for safety reasons we stipulate that we leave it to the discretion of the walking guide to determine whether a child is permitted on the walk or not.
At Mwiba, each party is allocated a private vehicle and guide, and guests are free to decide their own schedule. Spacious game viewing cars enhance the feeling of proximity to nature, and for keen photographers there is plenty of room for equipment and manoeuvring for that perfect angle.
Free access to our exclusive-use concession, Maswa Kimali, allows guests to roam further afield, and for anyone staying three nights or more, entry to Ndutu or Southern Serengeti is complimentary. All in all, there is no shortage of game-viewing opportunities, and the chance to explore a variety of different terrains is guaranteed.
Unlike many reserves and parks, Mwiba grants guests the freedom to explore the nocturnal element of safari: under the light of the moon, the landscape seems magically different, and an array of nocturnal species come out of hiding.
The Hadzabe are a hunter-gatherer tribe indigenous to the area, and live in perfect symbiosis with their environment, which provides them with all their needs for food, medicine and shelter.
Guests have the incredibly special opportunity to accompany them for a morning as they move through the wilderness, foraging for food and following honey-guide birds to sweet treats.
Join the Hadzabe on a foraging walk through nature and learn more about their folklore and history.
The Datoga are a pastoral tribe with a lifestyle akin to the Maasai. The opportunity to visit them in their village provides an excellent opportunity to gain insight into a proud and vibrant culture that is as much part of Mwiba's landscape as the wildlife is.
Dropping by late in the afternoon, guests are treated to the buzz of domesticity as the herders return home, and women busy themselves about their homestead in exquisite beaded and copper jewellery. They are delighted to show off their dwellings and rhythmic, joyous dancing in what is always a vibrant cultural exchange for all parties involved.
There is no better way to salute the end of a day on safari than with an ice-cold G&T in hand, watching the sun paint the sky shades of pink and orange as it sets.
Choose from an array of pampering massages to soothe the body after hours spent exploring the region on safari.
Elevate your safari experience to new heights with the inclusion of a helicopter excursion — exclusive to Legendary Expeditions.
Revel in the freedom to explore hundreds of thousands of acres of unspoiled wilderness: from the wide-open plains, dramatic volcanoes and mirror-like lakes to the spectacular geological formation of the Great East African Rift Valley, which tears through 7000km of African landscape.
Available for private transfers between properties, stunning scenic excursions, or as the ultimate aerial adventure for your entire safari circuit.
Max 4 adults OR 2 adults and 3 children (luggage restrictions apply).
