All guests at the resort, as well as visitors to the Lodge are invited to enjoy this daily educational activity referred to as the ‘Vulture Culture’ experience. This program is for guests at the resort, as well as visitors. It focuses on the ecological importance of raptors and scavengers in order to maintain and to build an overall awareness of conservation issues these birds face. By educating about the feeding habits and conservation of vultures, they are not only creating awareness of the conservation issues that face these birds, but benefiting their living environment within the area.
The experience occurs daily at 13h00 in front of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, and lasts approximately 30 minutes. The activity is great for photography and bird identification, and to date is thoroughly enjoyed by guests and visitors. At 12h45, the resident guide gathers the guests sitting at the Buffalo Bar to join him and heads down to the feeding area. Carcasses from The Boma dinner the previous night are thrown out to attract circling vultures. This is an amazing experience as there is activity in the sky at 12h45 and by 13h00 there are over 100 vultures and other birds of prey. (ITT)
Situated on the edge of the waterhole at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, the Siduli Hide offers guests a chance to observe wildlife in a unique way. A suitably trained and qualified Professional Guide escorts guests into the hide, which is designed to look like a termite mound. This involves a short walk (5 minutes) from the lodge to the hide. Once hidden within, guests wait for a variety of mammal, reptile and bird species to visit the waterhole to quench their thirst or to sample minerals at the nearby salt-lick.
Early morning and late afternoon trips to the hide are recommended. Times will vary slightly with the seasons, but they normally meet and set off for the hide at 06h15 and at 16h15 in the afternoons. Time spent in the hide will vary, but it is sold as a minimum of a two hour sit. They confirm on 2 guests and currently can take a maximum of 6 guests. No children under 16 years allowed (unless special permission is granted). In the morning, clients are offered tea/coffee at Vic Falls Safari Lodge, before going into the hide. In the afternoon, soft drinks are included, mineral water and a limited amount of beer (people need to be in a sober state due to close wildlife interactions). Ideally, the pickup times should be 15 minutes prior to the departure times above.
Please note that due to seasonal changes and the fact that this is an authentic wild experience, they cannot guarantee wildlife sightings. Saying this, the drier it gets, the more chance there is of having some very good close up encounters. Further points to consider: Guests must be able to sit quietly for long periods of time and should not suffer from claustrophobia. Due to the possibility of close interactions with wildlife, this experience is not for the faint-hearted. This activity is ideal for photographers, small groups and wildlife enthusiasts, who are after a ‘non-touristy” experience. (ITT)
The award-winning MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is not to be missed. The restaurant is widely-known for its impeccable service, exquisite meals and fine selection of South African wines. The restaurant is decorated with an African safari flair and a relaxed atmosphere in which to mingle with other guests and relive the day’s animal sightings. The international a la carte menu also includes popular dishes with a local flair like warthog fillets, impala loins and kudu fillets, and for the more adventurous, smoked crocodile pasta.
All meals are prepared with only the freshest ingredients. The split-level restaurant overlooks the lodge’s on-site watering hole that is often frequented by buffalo, elephant, warthog, antelope and colourful birdlife - the views alone guarantee a memorable meal. The view over the African bush at sunset is one not to be forgotten. As the restaurant is very popular, bookings are essential. MaKuwa-Kuwa is open every day for breakfast (06h30- 10h00), lunch (12h30 - 14h00) and dinner (19h00 - 22h00). The dress code is smart-casual. Summer evenings are warm, so light clothing is ideal, but winter evenings (June - August) can be chilly, so patrons are advised to bring a warm layer or two. Dinner guests are encouraged to be seated by 19h30 to enjoy MaKuwa-Kuwa’s resident acapella group’s African songs.
MaKuwa-Kuwa is also available for private parties of no more than 100 guests, provided that most of the guests are residents at either the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Victoria Falls Safari Club, Victoria Falls Safari Suites or Lokuthula Lodges. All bookings for private parties can be done through the functions manager or reservation office. (ITT)
Bask in the last few rays of sun from the Buffalo Bar balcony, as you watch the animals at the waterhole from your barstool. Situated below the MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, the open- plan Buffalo Bar is the perfect spot to unwind after a fun-filled day with a sundowner. Like the waterhole itself, Buffalo Bar is the central hub of the area, with guests enjoying themselves all throughout the day and the evening.
Enjoy cocktails here before going to dine at the Makuwa-Kuwa Restaurant upstairs, and come back down after dinner for drinks. The bar is also a convenient place to grab a light lunch in between your scheduled activities. Choose from a variety of salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes. Top beer brand Heineken named Buffalo Bar one of the Great Bars of the World, and as well as the magnificent views of the Zambezi River and pristine bushveld, you will find the staff to be warm, hospitable and professional. Buffalo Bar also has a wide drinks selection, house specialties and cocktails. (ITT)
When you’re planning the itinerary for your Victoria Falls holiday be sure to include an advance reservation at the often fully-booked restaurant, The Boma - Dinner & Drum Show. From the moment guests arrive at seven o’clock, they are immersed in the vibrant atmosphere. Aromas of local dishes and game meat on the barbeque fill the restaurant, which is partially open to the surrounding forest and the night skies. Staff members are warm and hospitable, offering traditional delicacies to guests as they enjoy the warm African evening.
The starter menu is influenced by local ingredients and offers a unique selection of dishes, including nyimo beans, groundnuts, Kariba bream (Tilapia), smoked crocodile, and deep-fried kapenta (Tanganyika sardines from Kariba). The Boma specialises in traditional African food, and the main course buffet offers grilled ostrich, buffalo curry, suckling pig on the spit, guinea fowl, game stew, kudu steak and warthog fillet. There are also good vegetarian options, with bush and garden vegetables galore. There is something for everyone. If you are brave, you can try out a dried mopane worm on offer, and don’t forget to claim your certificate as proof.
Diners are treated to outstanding performances by traditional singers and dancers, and a medicine man who will throw bones for you and tell your fortune. There is also a traditional storyteller who entertains guests with folklore tales. The food is cooked and served in the style and quantity of a lavish feast, including desserts. If you’ve overindulged, though, don’t worry – you can work it off in the energetic drumming circle that starts at nine o’clock, which usually turns into an even more energetic dance party. If that isn’t your cup of tea, the restaurant also has a lively bar, and a relaxed lounge area for you to enjoy the rest of your evening. (ITT)

A microlight flight over the Victoria Falls is a must for everyone. Flight options include a 15 minute
introductory flight over the Victoria Falls and Zambezi River - with genuine bird’s eye view of this
awesome spectacle. The 30 minute trip includes a flight over the Victoria Falls, then upstream over
Long Island, Palm Island, Kakunka and Kandahar Islands and finally onto the Mosi-oa-Tunya National
Park, where you’ll achieve a unique perspective of our famous park.
The most awesome perspective to see the Victoria Falls from the bottom of the gorge. Swimming in the rock pools below the Falls, surrounded by the massive black basaltic rock towering up above you and the water cascading down, seemingly out of the sky, is certainly one of the most breathtaking experiences you will ever have. This activity is a perfect combination with white water rafting: swim under the Victoria Falls before you hop in the raft and experience the thrill of ‘rafting at its best’.
The Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls is widely considered to be the very best rafting river in the world. A deep channelled, high volume river, the Zambezi has class 3-5 rapids interspersed with tranquil pools. This enables you to marvel at the magnificent beauty of the Batoka Gorge between some of the most exciting and challenging rapids rafted anywhere on the planet. Highly
professional guides ensure your safety and enjoyment of this amazing adventure.
The ultimate safari experience is a day-trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana, which boasts the world’s largest elephant population. The game cruise on the Chobe River brings you close to brilliant bird life, pods of watering hippos, primeval crocodiles and elephants, breathtaking in their sheer number. The afternoon’s land-based safari heads deeper into the Park to spot the elusive big cats that make Chobe their home.
A daring highlight of visiting Zambia is swimming in Devil’s Pool. This uniquely located plunge pool resides right on the edge of Victoria Falls, where the waterfall’s thundering cascade plummets 350-feet down, providing a pulse-racing dip. The pool is also special in that it can only be visited between mid-August and mid-January, before the summer rains swell the Zambezi River. Afterwards, the pool remains hidden under the river’s pounding flow.
The Zambezi - river of dreams and romance, evoking images of the
great era of adventure and exploration. Wild and captivating, the Zambezi beats to a rhythm and a time that is fast disappearing. The clear waters of the river and the game reserves that surround
it, attract herds of elephant, buffalo, several species of antelope,
giraffe, zebra, lion and leopard. You will negotiate small but exciting rapids, canoe through narrow channels and drift down open stretches. No previous canoeing experience necessary.
The African Queen and the African Princess are berthed just upstream of The Victoria Falls. Fully inclusive morning, lunch and sunset cruises are offered daily, treating passengers to sophisticated
views of the Zambezi River and the surrounding game reserves.
The Royal Livingstone Express ‘time travels’ back in history using beautiful steam locomotives and carriages lovingly restored by Bushtracks Africa and Rovos Rail. In this magnificent, romantic, steam-powered train we offer ‘The Dinner Excursion’ which includes a run along the “Cape to Cairo” mainline, which will then go on to the Victoria Falls Bridge in time for sunset. Don’t miss this unique chance of experiencing the sights and sounds of Zambia
Enjoy a once in a lifetime helicopter ride and watch from above as the mighty Zambezi River carves its way through the steep cliffs of the Batoka Gorge and transforms from a gentle and serene river into the rampant Victoria Falls that descend 120metres to the floor of the valley.
Located alongside the swimming pool, The Theatre of Food is a great spot to tuck into delicious breakfasts and international dinners. Tantalise your taste-buds with different cuisines on offer each night of the week whilst live music every evening adds some festive food fun for the entire family.?

Cycle Through the Heart of Impalila Island. Swap four wheels for two and explore the hidden gems of Impalila Island on a guided bicycle tour. Whether you’re up for an exhilarating 20 km adventure or a more leisurely 6 km scenic ride, this unique experience takes you beyond the river and into the heart of island life.
Pedal along winding dirt paths that lead you through ancient baobab forests, past local villages, and to one of the most remarkable geographical landmarks in the world – the only quadripoint, where four countries meet: Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the rich history and traditions of the island’s communities, offering a rare glimpse into daily life in this remote and beautiful corner of Africa.
Situated in the heart of the Chobe region with access to river frontage of the Chobe National Park, we also offer water-based game drives by tender boat, allowing you to experience the enormous diversity and concentration of wildlife up even closer.
Game viewing on the Chobe River is at its most exceptional from March to November when the weather is drier and the animals are more mobile as they search for food and water. Summer and spring also offer unique opportunities though, as you watch the landscape burst into life after the first rains of the season. Catch sight of huge herds of elephant as they swim across the water, as well as buffalo, lion, crocodile, lechwe, puku, giraffe, zebra, sable, kudu and the occasional leopard as they gather to quench their thirst at watering holes. Besides animal life, you’ll also see a huge variety of birdlife and plant life as you listen to the sounds of a hippo grunting and breathe in the sweet smell of African grass.
The Chobe is known as a photographer's paradise and for good reason. The soft early morning light and the sunsets at dusk, combined with striking animal behaviour, make for dramatic and unusual photo opportunities. Before your game viewing excursion, remember to apply sunscreen and wear a hat, as temperatures can reach over 40 degrees centigrade. You should also bring along a jacket for the chillier temperatures in the early mornings and evenings.
Enjoy the ultimate in game viewing safari decadence as you sip on a drink and cruise along the river in one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet.
No trip to the Chobe is complete without trying your hand at a fishing safari where if you’re lucky, you may even catch a tiger fish. One of the greatest fighting fish in the world, the tiger fish is the most sought after prize of these waters and is known for its ferocious spirit. It's not all about tiger fish though. You may also hook one of the many bream species, African pike, tilapia, catfish or upper Zambezi yellowfish as you explore over 100 kms of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers, as well as the winding Kasai Channel and thrilling Chobe and Mambova rapids.
We offer both conventional equipment as well as flyfishing equipment for our fishing safaris, because we know that the area is renowned worldwide for its flyfishing. We supply rods, flies, lures, lines, leaders and reels and all equipment is included in our rate.
Because of our unique location, we offer excellent fishing safaris all year round – from the annual floods starting in March to the feeding frenzies in the winter months. Our highly knowledgeable guides, the tackle and bait we supply as well as well stocked cooler boxes make fishing in Africa an experience to remember. Land an eight pounder or more and earn bragging rights for years to come, as you enjoy a fishing trip that's second to none.
With over 450 species, a mix of terrains and a dramatic African backdrop, the Chobe River is the perfect setting for a highly rewarding birdwatching safari. Birding season starts in September, when the first migrants arrive, boosting the bird population sometimes by 20% compared to the winter months. From December through to March birdlife on the Chobe is extremely busy and the colourful breeding plumage on display is an extraordinary sight.
Experienced birders and even eager amateurs will delight in spotting distinct birds such as African skimmers, rock pratincoles and the African finfoot, either through their binoculars or with the naked eye. Having access to your own knowledgeable guide and tender boat lets you spend many hours on your birding safari also viewing cattle egrets, fish eagles, open-billed storks, lesser-striped swallows, pied kingfishers and the striking carmine bee-eater. The slow drift of the tender boat means that you won’t disturb the peaceful silence and can also get up close to the birds and observe their fascinating behaviour.
Sit patiently and absorb the beauty around you and soon you’ll be rewarded with a unique sighting that you’ll want to photograph. Because you’ll have access to the Chobe National Park and the Caprivi wetlands, you’ll get exposure to a wide variety of species you may have never seen before. The distinct sounds of the call of an African fish eagle mingling with the grunt of hippos will stay with you long after your Chobe River birdwatching safari is over.
Uninterrupted access to wild animals. Absolute silence. Golden light. The Chobe River is an unforgettable photographic safari destination, and one of the wildlife photographers’ hotspots in Africa. To help you capture that perfect moment, our custom-designed photographic safari boats are available on request and cater for 6 clients in individual photographic seats. The boat contains custom-designed swivel chairs that give you greater stability and 360-degree views for a wider range of subject matter. Every seat is equipped with a mounting for resting SLR cameras of all types and you’ll get your own experienced safari guide who’ll help you find that perfect shot.
Bring your own photographic equipment as we don’t supply this - the optimal lens to bring is an 80 - 400mm zoom. Because this is a water-based safari, you'll be able to take unique shots in a safe environment, being able to view the animals in the Chobe National Park surrounded by that magical golden light Africa is renowned for. Tea and coffee will be offered in the morning during the winter months and soft drinks, local beers and wines will be served in the afternoon. Light snacks are also served during your excursion, providing you with a photographic experience that's also about pure comfort.
Departure times are early morning and late afternoon and the safari takes three hours. Please let us know at the time of booking your holiday if you’d like to use our customised photographic safari boat. Capture your stay with breathtaking photos of the unique African landscape and the wild animals that surround you.
