Anjajavy le lodge | Anjajavy

On the west coast of Madagascar, one hundred and fifty kilometres north of Majunga, lies the luxury retreat of Anjajavy Hotel. The hotel is situated on a peninsula overlooking a wide bay, and is backed by a natural reserve. There are twenty five air-conditioned villas, each with a large living room, breakfast nook and a bedroom, which opens onto a large terrace that overlooks the sea. The ensuite bathroom has a bath, a shower and a separate toilet. A small stairway leads to a small sitting room with two sleeper-couches for children. The main complex comprises a bar/restaurant with an exterior and an interior dining room, a swimming pool, five kilometres of beach and a 450-hectare nature reserve.
The lodge's restaurant offers an à la carte menu featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can enjoy meals indoors or on the expansive deck, with options for private dining experiences in the oasis or on the beach. The cuisine emphasizes organic and wild products, including seafood and produce gathered using sustainable practices.
Wildlife viewing here is effortless. Lemurs include the Coquerel's Sifaka, common brown lemurs and mouse lemurs. There are wonderful birds - flocks of bright green grey-headed love-birds, sickle-billed vangas, crested couas and vasa parrots, to name just a few. Reptiles are common including ground boas and hog-nosed snakes and plenty of chameleons.
There are extensive cave systems, tsingy-like limestone outcrops, extensive mangrove forests as well as beaches and coral reefs. There is a marina for water sports, including water skiing, snorkelling, sailing in a catamaran, wind surfing and excellent fishing. There are also boat excursions to the surrounding grottoes, a trip up the estuary to see mangroves, a visit to the “tsingy”, guided excursions in four wheel drive vehicles through the nature reserve, mountain bikes and the ability to explore the reserve on foot to discover the flora and fauna of the area.
Overall, Anjajavy Le Lodge offers a harmonious blend of luxury accommodations, diverse activities, and immersive natural experiences, making it a premier destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure in Madagascar.

Masoala Forest Lodge | Masoala National Park

The Masoala Peninsula holds Madagascar’s largest remaining tract of lowland rainforest and is a haven of biodiversity and endemism. Accessible only by boat, our Masoala Forest Lodge is a perfect castaway retreat lovingly built over two decades by modern day adventurers Pierre and Maria Bester. Its seven tented rooms are raised into the tree canopy on timber decks and peep through the lush greenery directly onto the golden beach.
The gentle wash of the ocean on the sheltered beach lulls you to sleep at night, and one day blends into the next here as you reconnect with nature and marvel at the evolutionary miracle that is Madagascar while forgetting that you ever wore shoes.
Reaching the Masoala Peninsula you’ll be hard pressed to see the camp from the sea so hidden is it in the coastal forest. Just the way we like it.

Masoala Forest Lodge - standard tent
Our seven rooms are traditional African safari tents, but in our case raised on stilted decks within the forest canopy and overlooking the beach. The cool breeze off the ocean or through the rainforest acts as natural air conditioning with the tents and their gauze windows oriented for maximum through drafts. Lying in bed and listening to the gentle wash of the ocean on the golden beach below, or the rustling of rainforest leaves cannot help but let you leave the frenetic energy of the city behind.

Activities Nearby
guided forest walks (primary forest and coastal littoral forest) in search of the area's spectacular endemic wildlife are one of the primary activities

guided night walks in the coastal forest are an essential activity to see a whole host of nocturnal creatures from lemurs to amphibians and reptiles as well as birds

several shore entry snorkeling spots up and down the coast - including one right in front of the lodge - reveal a colourful marine world.

sea kayaking allows exploration of hidden secret coves and islands, and even mangrove rivers

the beach and gentle lapping waves in sheltered coves are everpresent and welcoming whether for simple walks, spontaneous swims, snorkelling or picnics

Our various pirogues, or canoes, are a great way to experience either the freshwater of the Tampolo River on a forest expedition, or the ocean offshore of camp for a sundowner cruise.

The tiny nearby village of Ambodiforaha provides an excellent opportunity to get to know the local Betsimisaraka culture through music, dance, food and agriculture.
