Ongava Tented Camp | Ongava Private Game Reserve
Ongava Tented Camp is set within the 30,000-hectare Ongava Private Game Reserve on the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in northern Namibia, enjoying an open ecological link with the park and excellent access to its wildlife-rich plains and waterholes. Once a cattle ranch, Ongava is now a well-managed conservation reserve, renowned for strong populations of plains game and its important black and white rhino protection and research programmes. The camp itself is positioned overlooking a productive waterhole, which regularly attracts game throughout the day and into the evening.
The camp is built in a classic safari style, with spacious Meru-style canvas tents raised on wooden decks and shaded by thatch, blending naturally into the surrounding mopane woodland. The main areas are open and relaxed, centred around a thatched lounge and dining space with viewing decks that look out over the waterhole, as well as a small swimming pool and a firepit for evenings under the stars. The tents are comfortable rather than ultra-luxurious, each with en-suite bathrooms, private decks and views into the bush, creating a sense of privacy and immersion in the landscape.
Activities focus on game drives within the Ongava Reserve, where off-road driving allows for close wildlife encounters, as well as guided excursions into Etosha National Park to explore its iconic salt pan and permanent waterholes. Night drives and guided walks may be offered, and there is a strong conservation emphasis, with opportunities to learn about the reserve’s rhino monitoring and research work. Guest feedback frequently highlights the quality of wildlife viewing, particularly around the camp waterhole, the intimate atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable guides. Some guests note that the camp has a more traditional, slightly rustic feel compared to newer lodges, but many feel this adds to its charm and authenticity, with the location and game experience standing out as the camp’s greatest strengths.
Our rates include all meals, drinks and safari activities.
