A boat cruise at sunset or sunrise is a superb way to relax and enjoy the immersive beauty of the Zambezi, whilst keeping an eye out for wildlife on the river banks.
This is the only wildlife park in the area that provides refuge to white rhinos, which are closely protected by anti-poaching units. While on your game drive, keep an eye out for giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, wildebeest, zebra and diverse bird life.
All guests are invited to visit, engage with, and learn from the Tongabezi Trust School’s 280 bright, talented students, all of who receive free education and nutritious meals at Tujatane. In fact, if you are only going to do one happy thing during your stay at Tongabezi, we’d suggest it is a tour of this school.
This is one of our signature Tongabezi experiences, and for guests who haven't spent much time researching us online, we keep the Sandbar as a marvellous surprise. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of watching two sunsets -- above and within the water -- with sand in your toes and a drink in your hand.
Safaris can be quite sedentary, so we like to give our guests spaces where they can get moving and keep their energy levels high for their daily adventures. We have a personal trainer onsite daily.
Sit in the shallows of the Tongabezi Rock Pool with a cocktail in hand and the Zambezi River flowing before you, or spend some quality sunshine time by the Tongabezi Lap Pool a little further back from the river.
The Zambezi River, around Victoria Falls, is an excellent spot for both pole and fly fishing. There are over 75 species of freshwater fish in these warm, nutrient-rich waters, although it is usually one specific species that draws fishermen here – the tiger. Revered for their power and fierce set of teeth, landing a tiger fish is no easy task, even for a seasoned angler. Even an unsuccessful fishing outing on the Zambezi is still enjoyable if just for the beautiful scenery and tranquility.

The Maramba and Mukuni markets are visited daily by hundreds of people from Livingstone and surrounding areas. They come to buy everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to chitenge, the bright patterned fabric characteristic of Southern and East African fashion. We have an Air-Conditioned Dining Room with spectacular river views. Choose to sit inside or out (there is ample seating on the deck).
Tongabezi Lodge is the only property in Livingstone that can, and does, offer every guest the opportunity to dine privately. Guests can dine in-room (indoors or out on private decks), on the sampan, on an e-dhow, on a sandbank island, in the hangout, and even at Victoria Falls, under lunar rainbows, as well as enjoy a Livingstone Island lunch when visiting the falls during an inclusive experience. Duma Tau Camp (meaning “roar of the lion”) is a tented camp located in the private 126 000-hectare Linyanti Wildlife Reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. Duma Tau is built on raised boardwalks under a shady grove of mangosteen trees, overlooking a large lagoon on the Linyanti waterways.
The seven suites and one family suite camp are spacious, built on elevated wooden decks with canvas walls, allowing guests to enjoy the night sounds of Africa from the comfort of their rooms. Each tented room, elegantly decorated in earthy colours, has an en-suite bathroom, lounge area and deck with a private plunge pool and seating area.
The tastefully decorated main area houses wide-angle vistas that overlook the wildlife-rich lagoon, a dining and bar area, library, lounge, and fire pit area which extends out over the lagoon. There is also a central wellness centre and gym, which is shared with Little Duma Tau and includes an inviting shaded deck, a lap pool, massage spa, a drinks and snack counter, and Safari Boutique shop.
The region has all the habitat diversity to make it a haven for wildlife, and is well known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months. Day and night game viewing are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles along the Savuti Channels and the banks of the Linyanti River. It is also possible to enjoy guided walks (on request). Water activities such as boating, seasonal catch and release fishing and sundowners on a barge are on offer when available and water levels permit when the Linyanti River is in full flood.
There are many hides in the area where guests can enjoy wildlife viewing close and away from a vehicle. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savuti and many species of game and birdlife can usually be seen.
At an additional cost, guests can book treatments at the wellness centre and helicopter scenic flights.

Jao Camp offers both land and water activities, the focus of which is dependent on the fluctuating levels of the Okavango's floodwater. Day and night game drives are offered, giving you an opportunity to explore this magical reserve. Water levels permitting, boating and mokoro excursions in traditional dugout canoes offer a tranquil escape on the winding waterways of the delta. There are two platform hides in the Jao Concession offering secluded game viewing, up close but in safety, providing amazing photographic opportunities.

There is no better way of viewing the Delta and its wildlife than adventuring by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe). Drift across Botswana's Okavango floodplains, the world's largest freshwater, inland delta. The riverine forest surrounding Wilderness Jao are ideal for spotting smaller creatures amongst the papyrus reeds.
* Water levels permitting.
A boating excursion allows us to reach and explore the more distant waterways and clear, deep channels. Explore the iconic Delta floodplains at Wilderness Jao.
* Water levels permitting.
Fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment (spinner rods and a small range of lures) is on offer seasonally on a catch and release basis.
* Note that fishing is seasonal as it is prohibited by Botswana law in January and February due to breeding purposes.
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4x4 vehicles, and reveal the spectacular wildlife diversity of the vast floodplains. Traverse the iconic Jao Reserve in search of game ranging from the elusive Pel’s fishing-owl, to the infamous ‘Jao Mafia’ mongoose gang, to a myriad of big cats, to co-habiting crocodiles and hippos, to a multitude of antelope species, buffalo, and elephant herds.
Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. Please note that during high water levels, night drives are not possible.
Wilderness Jao rests under a fantastic tree canopy on its own remote island, surrounded by a watery garden of channels, reeds, and lilies. A 45 minute boat ride from Wilderness Jao, you can enjoy a full-day game drive, along with a picnic, on wildlife-rich Hunda Island.
Tucked away in amongst palms for privacy, overlooking lush waterways, the Wilderness Jao Spa is an exquisite setting from where you can rest, relax and feel utterly restored. A full menu of therapies from facials to manicures, and a range of signature massage options, may be experienced. A treatment is bound to further inspire guests to fully appreciate Wilderness Jao's extraordinary holistic offering.
Stay active and energised amid the wild beauty Jao. The well-equipped gym (treadmill, elliptical trainer, punch bag for boxing, stationary exercise bicycle, exercise mats, medicine ball, skipping ropes and a range of free weights) is a haven for a refreshing workout with a view of the magnificent floodplains.
A fascinating feature at Wilderness Jao is the museum and gallery, with its emphasis on learning and knowledge sharing of the area and its denizens, from a metres high giraffe skeleton, to geographical maps. In addition, a series of botanical pressings by EE Galpin, known as the 'Prince of Collectors' and one of the pre-eminent botanists of his time, is beautifully showcased here. In fact, he was the great-grandfather of Cathy Kays, co-owner of Wilderness Jao. Included is a fascinating history of the Kays family, who have been rooted in Botswana since the 19th century and today based in Maun, operating Ngamiland Adventure Safaris (NAS) and other ventures.

Mombo Camp is situated on Mombo Island, adjoining the northern tip of Chief's Island, arguably Botswana’s prime game viewing area located within the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. The island is surrounded by open floodplains and the camp itself is largely built in and around the shade of some large mangosteen, ebony and fig trees - overlooking a wonderful floodplain teeming with game.
The camp has nine luxuriously furnished tents, raised off the ground. The guests' rooms and connecting walkways are up to two metres off the ground thus allowing game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time ensuring guest safety. The stylish tented rooms are spacious and well appointed and have en-suite facilities with an additional outdoor shower for those who enjoy a shower under the stars. The dining room, pub and living area overlook the open plain in front of the camp and there is a plunge pool for relaxing in the heat of the day.
Game viewing activities at Mombo are undertaken in open 4x4 vehicles throughout the day, the restrictions of being in the Moremi Game Reserve and fluctuating water levels mean that only game drives are offered from camp.
The Mombo area is renowned for being the most exceptional game viewing area in the Okavango Delta with a high concentration of plains game and predators, including big cats. Lion sightings are particularly good and guests may also see leopard, large herds of buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, hyena, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra. Black and white rhino have been reintroduced with outstanding success to the area (albeit most are further away from camp), thanks to the Botswana Rhino Reintroduction Program.
