Birding at Saguni
Nestled in the heart of the Khwai Community Concession, Saguni Safari Lodge and its exclusive sister retreat, Sagaro, offer a birdwatcher's paradise like no other. This pristine wilderness, where riverine forests meet open floodplains and mopane woodlands, supports an extraordinary diversity of birdlife year-round.
Wake to the melodic chorus of robins and doves, and spend your days in the company of expert guides, scanning the skies and waterways for some of Botswana’s most iconic and elusive species. From the vivid flash of a Lilac-breasted Roller to the majestic silhouette of a soaring Martial Eagle, every outing promises new and exciting discoveries.
The Khwai River draws a variety of waterbirds and waders—watch for Saddle-billed Storks, African Jacanas, Pygmy Geese, and Slaty Egrets as they forage along the channels and lagoons. The surrounding bush teems with colourful bee-eaters, kingfishers, hornbills, and cuckoos, while lucky guests may spot rare species such as the Pel’s Fishing Owl, Rosy-throated Longclaw, or Bat Hawk.
Whether you're a seasoned birder or simply appreciate nature’s quieter treasures, Saguni offers the perfect base to experience Khwai’s exceptional avian diversity—accompanied, of course, by warm hospitality and breathtaking views.
