Time + Tide Mchenja | South Luangwa National Park

Set in a grove of magnificent ebony trees Mchenja (meaning ebony) is a luxurious, elegant and stylish tented camp overlooking a huge sweeping bend in the Luangwa. Mchenja has been described as one of the most luxurious and romantic bush camps in Zambia. Five specially designed octagonal tents with roll-top baths and outdoor showers string along the Luangwa River affording spectacular views from all rooms.

The beautiful central chitenje (lounge) is built around one of the old fallen Mchenja (ebony) trees and lunch is taken in the shady lounge but dinner is more often served on the river bank under the stars. Elephants are known to drink from the plunge pool in the main area and lions and leopard are frequently seen wandering around the nearby ebony grove and permanent lagoon. Mchenja is situated in a superb game-viewing area where walking safaris, game drives and night drives are always productive and exciting.

Mchenja, meaning "ebony", occupies a stunning setting beneath a magnificent grove of ebony trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. Mchenja is a luxurious, elegant and stylish tented camp overlooking a huge sweeping bend in the Luangwa, Zambia. Each of the five specially designed octagonal tents has their own private en-suite open air bathroom plus Victorian style baths with river view.

The beautiful central chitenje (lounge) is built around one of the old fallen Mchenja (ebony) trees and guests can cool off there in the camp’s plunge pool. Brunch is taken in the shady lounge but dinner is more often served on the river bank under the stars.

Guests staying at Mchenja can choose whether they want to view their wildlife on foot or from an open gameviewing vehicle.

In addition to the ebony grove at camp there are two other stunning groves close by, as is the case with Kakuli, the gameviewing in this area is superb and night drives are usually very worthwhile.

Mchenja is the perfect destination to complete a walking or driving safari that has combined stays at a number of our bush camps. Alternatively, those guests seeking a little more comfort and pampering may choose to combine a longer stay here, with a number of nights at Chinzombo, our new ultra luxury bush camp on the banks of the Luangwa River.

John Kasonga is the guide/manager at Mchenja and his encyclopedic knowledge of the plants, animals and small things of the Luangwa will make your safari one to remember.

Time + Tide Luwi | South Luangwa National Park

Situated deep in the National Park on the ephemeral Luwi River, Time + Tide Luwi is wonderfully remote, with no other camps for miles around.

Tranquillity envelops this camp, creating a wilderness haven that allows you to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way. Nestled in a grove of ancient mahogany trees, the safari tents are designed to fully immerse guests into the bush experience. From the comfort of your open-air lounge, watch the diverse wildlife wandering by on the grassy floodplains.

Listen to the hippos bellowing in the nearby lagoon and breathe in the aroma of African grasses drifting past on a cool breeze. Sit back and let the peace of this place wash over you.

Time + Tide Chongwe Camp | Lower Zambezi

Enjoy the best views in the Lower Zambezi, looking across the meeting point of two mighty rivers.

Time + Tide Chongwe Camp is our newly refurbished camp, with each safari tent set along the confluence of the Chongwe River which winds through the forested valley meeting with the mighty Zambezi River, creating a haven for wildlife and exceptional sightings.

Its eight classic tents are designed to make the most of what Mother Nature provided. Each has a panoramic view along the Chongwe River, a spacious open-air bathroom, a porch with comfortable lounge chairs and features local textiles and handcrafted furniture.

Every day our team serves up satisfying meals, your favourite drinks and big smiles in the relaxed main lounge. The wildlife hide is great for photography and for spotting rare nocturnal creatures.

The small number of camps in Lower Zambezi National Park keep it free from overcrowding. The area is best known for its impressive variety of safari activities – enjoy drives to walking safaris, or take to the rivers on a boat cruise or canoeing safari, or try your hand at tiger fishing.
