Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is idyllically situated on a hilltop in rural Tanzania, near Karatu and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Situated in the heart of the safari circuit in Northern Tanzania, the lodge offers an oasis of peace and comfort in the middle of nature.
This special lodge was founded by the Dutch doctors Joris and Marise, who after their retirement leased a piece of land with two impressive hills. On one hill they built a children's home, while the other hill houses the lodge. Although the lodge and the children's home are now separated, the lodge still contributes to the financing of the children's home. By staying here, guests automatically support this wonderful initiative.
The lodge has 16 charming safari tents, each with its own veranda and a breathtaking view over the vast Tanzanian valley. The construction of the lodge is made of local materials in a traditional African style, which creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere in both the restaurant and the lounge. The restaurant serves meals prepared with fresh ingredients from the on-site vegetable garden.
Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is fully solar powered and serves filtered water in glass bottles, making sustainability an important part of the experience. Due to its location at an altitude of around 2,000 metres, the lodge remains mosquito-free, although it can get quite chilly in the evenings. However, with hot water bottles in bed and bowls of warm coals, you can still enjoy yourself in comfort.
There is also a lovely swimming pool with comfortable sunbeds to relax on. Free WiFi is available in the restaurant area and drinks can be paid for with cash.
