Named Akarabo – which means ‘little flower’ in Kinyarwanda – our on-site nursery was borne from our commitment to help reforest, rehabilitate and maintain the habitat of Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas. Initially, 60,000 saplings were bought from local growers and earmarked for the 178 acres of land Singita Volcanoes National Park sits on. This number quickly grew to 250,000 saplings, even before the lodge opened, and continues to increase as we keep expanding our reforestation efforts in the area.
It’s a privilege to share this lush diversity of plants with our guests. Whether you opt for a gentle stroll along the rows of new trees, past the glorious fragrances of flourishing herbs or through the farm-to-table chef’s garden filled with fresh vegetables, it’s bound to inspire and delight in equal measure.
Providing an authentic taste of Rwanda’s offerings, our garden includes a teahouse serving fresh herbal brews, as well as local artisans such as a basket weaver, seamstress and stick carver showcasing the intricacies of their craft. Echoing our passion for treading lightly on the land, living sustainably and empowering communities, Akarabo is growing – just like the saplings being planted – into a lasting, living legacy.

Guests have the option to explore the local cuisine by participating in cookery classes that are conducted by expert chefs. Both adults and children are welcome to participate in cooking classes.

Singita is recognised as one of Africa’s most influential collectors of wine, with an extensive cellar showcasing a premium selection of wines, including some of the continent’s most sought-after private reserves, including exclusive release, limited single vineyard and rare auction wines. It’s safe to say that wine is a key ingredient of the unique Singita experience.
The Singita wine list has received numerous awards of excellence, the top Diners’ Club Wine List accolade as well as recognition from countless other local and international organisations.
François Rautenbach is responsible for this excellence as the director of Singita Premier Wine, he manages the selection, purchase, storage, and service of all the wines at Singita’s lodges. François also manages Singita Premier Wine Direct which allows guests to order their favourite wines from their safari to enjoy at home. With the Singita Premier Wine Direct service, wines can either be specially packed for guests as checked luggage or shipped directly to a guest’s home.
Personalised wine tastings within the unique ambience of each lodge’s own temperature-controlled cellar are a true guest favourite, for connoisseurs and casual tasters alike. Singita’s experienced sommeliers are able to guide guests through a variety of wine styles, years and cultivars to find the wines most suited to their individual tastes.
As with all that Singita does, community upliftment is central to the Singita wine programme as well. François Rautenbach has created a special training programme for enthusiastic young wine lovers, developing the next generation of sommeliers for Africa. The training provides educational assistance, personal mentoring, formal wine training and access to Africa’s finest wine programme.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. Through education and peace-building it honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed. Visitors can take a tour with a guide, or opt for a self-guided audio tour while exploring the memorial and reflecting at their own pace.
Genocide Memorial in Kigali
Nestled along picturesque hilltops, Kigali is a thriving African city immediately notable for its cleanliness, orderliness, and warm hospitality. Kigali, located in the geographic center of the country, is a great place to begin or end any Rwandan adventure. The capital city is vibrant and energetic, and its people are extremely welcoming. Here, travelers can enjoy a number of cultural activities including several award-winning museums, a burgeoning music scene and some of East Africa’s most memorable dining experiences.

Guests at Singita Volcanoes National Park have the unique opportunity to visit the small village of Gasura in the Kinigi sector, which is located 30 minutes from the lodge. The interactive tour takes approximately two hours and includes a range of authentic Rwandese cultural experiences.
Taking guests from house to house in the village, this involves everything from meeting local crafters weaving baskets and carving gorilla-trekking sticks to learning how to process locally produced staples – such as stomping cassava roots and grinding sorghum for flour. It also includes visiting families in their homes to get a glimpse of the local lifestyle.

This scenic 2.2km (1.4mi) walking/running trail runs behind the lodge. It starts at the main entrance, ascending hilly terrain and meandering through a fragrant eucalyptus forest before finishing at the on-site Akarabo Nursery. The beautiful vistas and sounds of nature are a highlight, and on a clear day, one can see the distant city of Musanze nestled below.
The trail is open and unguided, allowing guests the freedom to explore. However, as the lodge shares its surroundings with buffalo and other wildlife, we advise caution while running or walking. Although buffalo primarily roam during the evenings and move towards the park during the day, we encourage guests to exercise their judgment when utilising the trail, always being mindful of their surroundings and undertaking the experience at their own risk.
This trail offers a sanctuary for keen walkers and runners, where guests can reconnect with nature, find solace, and create lasting memories in the breathtaking "The Land of a Thousand Hills."
*This walking/running trail is seasonal and is best utilized during the drier months - June to September and December to February.

The tranquil and peaceful surroundings of the on-site Akarabo Nursery provide the perfect backdrop for creative expression and pure relaxation. Our nursery is home to a unique pottery wheel-throwing experience, offering our guests a delightful combination of therapy and art.
The pottery studio provides a peaceful space allowing our guests to explore their creativity in addition to an ancient art form as they create beautiful, sculptural and functional pieces with their hands.
In preference, guests will have their pick of bisque items created by skilled local Rwandan potters and can be personalised through glazing and painting.
Accompanied by two well-trained studio staff members committed to ensuring our guests feel welcome and supported, potters can feel at ease as they embark on their pottery-making journey.

Olonana Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary | Masai Mara

Olonana Lodge is a hideaway of rare elegance and serenity, in a prime position on a private stretch of the Mara River – the very spot where Sanctuary began, a quarter of a century ago, in 1999.
Connoisseurs of the Maasai Mara – that vast, gorgeous expanse of wilderness in southwestern Kenya, at the border with Tanzania – know that its character changes subtly from one nook to the next. Olonana occupies a covetable position just north on the famous Mara Triangle, at the edge of the National Reserve – a marvellously secluded and leafy spot, between looming escarpment and fast-flowing river. Here the “Sanctuary” label seems especially apt. Yet all around, the ceaseless pageant of wildlife and wonder rolls on.

At Sanctuary Olonana, game viewing starts from the camp. A pod of hippos lives permanently in the river just below camp and many other species come to drink there. Sanctuary's experienced guides take you to all the hidden spots and our customised open safari vehicles offer all-round views, allowing for excellent photography opportunities. The Mara's rich eco-system includes acacia-studded savannah, riparian forest and woodland which attract more than 300 bird species and a stunning variety of animal life all year round.

Get an insight into the vibrant and still traditional way of life of the Maasai. Learn about the medicinal plants that grow here, the importance of cattle and the stages of life through which all Maasai pass, from young boy or girl to respected elder. Accompanied by an experienced Maasai guide you are invited to visit the village which is built along traditional lines; complete with cattle enclosure, outer palisade and mud and cow dung huts. Meet the elders, their wives and families and learn about the social structure of the homestead, the role of women in their society and many more aspects of their daily life. Interaction and discussion is encouraged, so whether the ladies are building a hut, the warriors are dancing or making fire with stones and sticks, guests are free to join in.

More and more popular are the visits organised by our guides to a variety of local schools during school term. These visits are free but we would recommend a donation to the school of anything upward of $15 per person.

Your balloon is inflated against the first rays of sunrise and once aloft floats gently over the plains and the plethora of game. The balloon lands around one hour after taking off with breakfast being prepared nearby. The smells of bacon, sausages and eggs drift on the breeze as you begin breakfast with platefuls of exotic Kenyan fruits and homemade pastries and, of course, glasses of bubbly to toast your flight.

As andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is situated in the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, game drives take a significant amount of time to reach the crater’s floor and return to the lodge. This means that you will most likely be offered the choice of one morning or afternoon game drive per day. You will descend into the crater through a lush highland forest, with magnificent birdlife to be spotted among the different tree species. Once on the grassy crater floor, you may discover a large variety of grazing herbivores, as well as the predators that are attracted by this abundant supply of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi, while the surrounding swamp is inhabited by hippo. While the Ngorongoro Crater boasts an incredible abundance of wildlife, you will most likely also encounter a great number of other vehicles during the high season, especially at high interest sightings. On the other hand, the rainy season is much quieter, allowing for a far more private game drive. Safari vehicles are closed, with glass windows and a pop-up roof. Off-road driving is not permitted.

Balloon Safari - See the magnificence of the Serengeti plains from a bird's eye view and gently float over the seemingly endless landscape just as the faint light of dawn touches and slowly covers the land.
Mara River Migration Crossing - Witness up close one of the world's most amazing and dramatic wildlife events as over one million wildebeests, zebras and antelopes cross the Mara River and face both natural and predatory perils in their annual race for survival.
Safari Game Drives - Every game drive is a unique experience, which comes with a thrilling sense of adventure that never wanes, no matter how many times you go through it. Africa's Big 5, wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, primates and over 500 species of birds, are only some of the amazing wildlife that you may see during each trip. And with our expert Guides accompanying you every step of the way, each game drive you take with us becomes a journey of discovery filled with exciting, life-altering moments.
To make your game drive experience even better, all our safari vehicles are fully modified with luxurious interiors and ergonomically designed seats with extra suspension among others. And since we only take a maximum of four passengers per vehicle on our game drives, this means that you will enjoy more space, more privacy and more comfort.
Take a truly awe-inspiring trip to the centre of the famed Ngorongoro Crater (often described as Africa's Eden), which nurtures an ecosystem that supports a resident population of up to 25,000 large mammals.
And should you visit us during January or February, you may also have the opportunity to experience the magnificence of the wildebeest calving season where around 8,000 calves are born per day.
Experience the ultimate day trip of a lifetime, which begins at the Ngorongoro Conservation area where you can explore the "Cradle of Mankind". From there, we'll take you to where you can literally follow the footsteps of our earliest ancestors — the Laetoli footprints. And to cap the day, we'll make a stop near Olduvai Gorge where you can wonder at the almost unearthly sight of the mysterious volcanic ash dunes of Shifting Sands.
Unique to One Nature, all our safari vehicles are photography-ready and are especially modified to accommodate the space and equipment needs of both amateur and professional photographers alike. What's more, you may arrange to have a professional wildlife photographer to go with you for some pointers on how to take the most memorable nature shots.
Experience nature up close and personal as our expert Park Guides take you along a foot trail filled with amazing wildlife discoveries.
