Metropolitan Touring Perú Terms and Conditions
DESTINATION MANAGEMENT COMPANY AND BRAND NAME
The following terms and conditions apply to “Metropolitan Touring Peru”, the brand name of a Destination Management Company (DMC) based in Peru and constituted as Inversiones Receptour S.A. with TAX ID (RUC) 20456865152. Any mention of “Metropolitan Touring Peru” applies to Inversiones Receptour S.A.
TRAVEL AGENTS TRAVEL ADVISORS AND OTHER INTERMEDIARIES
In the travel industry, it is common for tour operators, travel agents, travel advisors, or other intermediaries to arrange trips for their clients (end users, guests, or travelers). In cases where they purchase travel services from Metropolitan Touring Peru for their clients (final customers, guests, or travelers), they must inform their clients of the terms and conditions detailed herein. Failure to do so does not entitle clients or final customers to claim that they were not aware of the terms and conditions detailed herein.
PERSONAL INFORMATION OF GUEST
To process a booking or reservation to Peru, Metropolitan Touring Peru requires the following guest information to be provided by the client, tour operator, travel agent, travel advisor, or intermediary:
- Complete names and surname(s)
- Nationality
- Passport number
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Scanned copy of the passport’s information and photo page
- Dietary restrictions, if any
COPY OF PASSPORT REQUIREMENT
In accordance with a government requirement related to international money laundering, the Peruvian State requires Peruvian DMCs to obtain and keep on file a copy of the passport of foreign travelers to Peru. Accordingly, Metropolitan Touring sales executives must receive a copy of each guest's passport information and photo page before reconfirming travel services. These copies and the information contained therein will be handled with absolute confidentiality and will not be used for any other purpose by Metropolitan Touring Peru.
HANDLING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION AND CONFIDENTIALITY
Metropolitan Touring Peru guarantees that all personal data will be treated with absolute confidentiality and in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law (N° 29733). Metropolitan Touring Peru will only release a guest’s personal information if it is formally requested by official authorities, including the Peruvian Immigration Office. Also,
Metropolitan Touring Peru will supply guests’ passport information to suppliers who need it, such as airlines, and Inca Trail authorities, among others.
RATES
All rates presented in quotations and invoices are expressed in US Dollars unless otherwise specified. Rates are presented per person, based in a double occupancy room, unless otherwise specified. Although unlikely to occur, third-party suppliers’ rates can change without previous notice. Metropolitan Touring Peru does not take responsibility for unexpected rate changes. However, it fully commits to making every effort to avoid such cases or minimize their impact.
PASSPORT VALIDITY
To enter Peru, a foreign traveler's passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of departure from Peru. It is the traveler's responsibility to comply with this requirement.
NOT INCLUDED
All inclusions are listed and detailed in Metropolitan Touring Peru's quotations, proposals, and/or travel vouchers. Anything not listed as included in the itinerary is therefore not included. Guests are responsible for their passports, visas, travel insurance, payment of excess baggage, travel permits, airline requirements, as well as any pre-departure forms required by authorities, transportation companies, governments, etc. In addition, personal requests such as additional beverages, laundry service, communication expenses (calls, faxes, e-mails, roaming service, etc.), tips, or other services and fees not specified in the itinerary must be paid by the guest, and are not the responsibility of Metropolitan Touring Peru.
ITINERARY AND UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS
Itineraries are planned with great care and detail by Metropolitan Touring Peru. Likewise, the operations team of Metropolitan Touring Peru will permanently monitor the itineraries of its guests and clients and will try to anticipate any foreseeable situation that may affect the itinerary or any of the services provided as part of the itinerary. However, in some very exceptional cases, the itinerary or individual services may have to be modified, interrupted, or canceled due to operational reasons or unexpected events beyond the control of Metropolitan Touring Peru, its associates, or its suppliers, such as weather conditions, acts of nature, traveler’s health, diseases, food poisoning, governmental restrictions, acts of war, civil unrest, insurrection or revolt, strikes or other labor activities, criminal or terrorist activities of any kind, epidemics, animals, mechanical or other failures of aircraft or other means of transportation or any other form of force majeure event. In any case, Metropolitan Touring Peru will do everything in its power to maintain the original itinerary, make the least amount of modifications, and minimize the cost of modifications, penalties, rescheduling, or cancellation charges originating from suppliers. Metropolitan Touring Peru cannot be held responsible for the cost of any changes, penalties, or cancellation charges, as all of these would have to be covered by the guest or client.
SUGGESTED TIPS
Gratuities and tips are optional and voluntary. However, the following amounts are suggested for ground services:
- Guide/carrier: US $ 5.00 per guest per day. Driver: US $ 3.00 per guest per day.
- Tipping at Restaurants: 10% of the total bill.
- Amazon river cruises have their own tipping recommendation.
AIR TICKETS
Air ticket rates are subject to change without prior notice until final issuance. Air tickets will be issued only after payment is received by Metropolitan Touring Peru. Flight schedules are subject to change by the airlines until the day of the flight. Airlines may impose restrictions, limitations, penalties, and/or additional specific conditions. Domestic flights in Peru may not include free drinks or snacks, and some may offer in-flight purchase options. In general, in case of cancellation, airline tickets are non-refundable and non-endorsable, however, Metropolitan Touring Peru will make every effort to change the flight date and/or route at the lowest possible cost to its clients.
18% TAX EXONERATION AT HOTELS
An 18% tax on hotel services applies to:
- Peruvian and foreign residents in Peru.
- Foreign travelers staying over 60 days in Peru.
- Foreign travelers sharing a room with at least one Peruvian or foreign resident.
Metropolitan Touring Peru will generally quote hotel services to foreign travelers without the 18% tax on hotel services. To avoid a possible 18% charge at the hotels, foreign travelers are required to present their passports to the hotels during check-in for verification. If a hotel determines that a guest or traveler is not entitled to the 18% deduction that was originally granted by Metropolitan Touring Peru, guests or travelers will have to pay that 18% tax directly to the hotel.
INSURANCE
Metropolitan Touring Peru strongly recommends its guests and travelers to purchase trip cancellation, repatriation, and international health insurance to cover any inconveniences and/or unforeseen events that may arise during the trip. If the guest or traveler does not purchase insurance, Metropolitan Touring Peru may, at the client's expense, arrange for medical treatment or emergency evacuation service, if deemed essential for the client's safety. Metropolitan Touring Peru also recommends its guests and travelers to discuss with their physician any medical concerns related to international travel.
FIT/GROUP SIZE DEFINITION
- FIT conditions apply to a set of nine or fewer travelers, up to 4 rooms.
- GROUP conditions apply to a set of ten or more travelers, from 5 up to 15 rooms.
PAYMENT CONDITIONS
Full payment is required on behalf of Metropolitan Touring Peru:
- 46 days prior to the date of arrival for FITs
- 61 days prior to the date of arrival for Groups.
Important considerations:
- Prepayments and payments required and received by Metropolitan Touring Peru are used to contract and secure travel services from suppliers for its clients.
- Stricter pre-payment conditions may apply to some specific dates, hotels, cruises, or service providers. These conditions will be specified by Metropolitan Touring Peru ́s destination expert during the organization phase of the trip or itinerary, and before the payment request.
- Different conditions may apply for large or special groups.
- Payment constitutes the acceptance of the terms and conditions stipulated herein.
- Any reimbursement made by Metropolitan Touring Peru to a client is subject to a 4% charge to cover bank fees and operational costs. Metropolitan Touring Peru is committed to processing reimbursements in due time, and these will be executed right after funds are refunded by the involved suppliers.
SPECIAL DATES
Some services increase their rates during holidays or special dates, including but not limited to:
- Easter (Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday; dates vary each year)
- May 1st (Labor Day Celebration in Peru)
- Inti Raymi in Cusco (June 20th to 25th)
- National Holidays (June 29th, July 28th & 29th, August 30th, October 8th, November 1st, December 8th)
- Christmas (December 24th and 25th)
- New Year (December 31st and January 1st)
- Specific events
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR MACHU PICCHU PERMITS
Due to the high demand in Machu Picchu and new capacity regulations, it is strongly recommended to issue your entrance tickets to Machu Picchu at least 60 days prior travel date. Please notice, once issued, those tickets will be non-reimbursable, and non- transferable.
SPECIAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR INCA TRAIL POLICIES
As the Inca Trail has a limited allowance of people per day Metropolitan Touring Peru strongly recommends that bookings are made as much in advance as possible. According to Resolution #002-2004-UGM-CD, chapter III of the Inca Trail Regulation which refers to Inca Trail booking availability, bookings will only be guaranteed by the governmental institutions when providing full names, nationality, and passport number of each passenger and once having paid the full amount of entrance fees for passengers and trekking staff (cook and team of porters). This payment will be considered a deposit and is NON-REFUNDABLE. Therefore, Metropolitan Touring Peru will only be able to guarantee the spaces booked provided the following conditions are met:
- Availability for the Inca Trail for the requested date has been previously confirmed to Metropolitan Touring Peru Reservations Department via e-mail by the corresponding trekking provider/supplier.
- Full passenger information has been provided and the required deposit has been paid before the deadline date set by Metropolitan Touring Peru. The following client information is mandatory to obtain an Inca Trail permit:
- Complete name(s) and surname(s)
- Nationality
- Scanned copy of information and photo page of passport
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Dietary restrictions, if any To issue an Inca Trail permit for a specific date Metropolitan Touring Peru will provide the information to the governmental institution in charge of regulating access to the Inca Trail. Once an Inca Trail permit is issued a change of date or personal information is not allowed by Inca Trail authorities. Exceptionally, a change in passport number is allowed if requested by email to Metropolitan Touring Peru at least 12 days before the start of the Inca Trail. Inca Trail authorities reserve the right to refuse entry to any visitor whose details do not exactly match those on the official permit. Metropolitan Touring Peru excludes any responsibility for non-entry in case the passenger's information is no longer valid or mistaken.
CHILDREN POLICIES AT HOTELS
Some hotels and suppliers offer children discounts based on age and other conditions such as room/bed-sharing. As these discounts vary from supplier to supplier, Metropolitan Touring Peru’s travel expert will include any available children discounts on proposals and/or quotations. Amazon River Cruises, Sleeper Trains, and some hotels do not offer any children discounts.

All bank transfer costs must be covered and assumed by the sender. The Booking/Reservation Number(s) must be specified in the reference code field of the bank transfer. Additionally, Metropolitan Touring Peru requires via email, a copy of the payment confirmation/bank transfer issued by the bank in charge of transferring the funds, including the following information:
- Booking (or Guest) Name
- Booking Number
- Traveling date
Failure to send the bank transfer information will not allow Metropolitan Touring Peru to promptly identify a payment in your bank account and may generate delays in the confirmation of the services, which may result in the loss of the pre-booked services. In that case, any loss of pre-booked services will not be the responsibility of Metropolitan Touring Peru.
B. Credit Card payments:
Credit card payment is available. Visa, Master Card, and American Express credit cards are accepted. A payment link will be sent promptly by Metropolitan Touring Peru. This link authorizes Metropolitan Touring Peru to charge for its services. If not received, clients or guests may request this link from their Metropolitan Touring Peru destination expert. In this industry, it is common for tour operators, travel agents, travel advisors, or other types of intermediaries to pay Metropolitan Touring Peru for travel services arranged for the end user (the traveler, passenger, or guest), and to do so using the credit card belonging to the end user. In such cases, the tour operator, travel agent, travel advisor, or intermediary must inform its client (the end user who is the owner of the credit card) about the terms and conditions contained in this document so that no unfounded claims are subsequently generated. Failure to communicate the terms and conditions to the credit card owner does not entitle him/her to disregard the terms and conditions detailed herein.
C. Check payments:
Check payments in US Dollars and issued by a US Bank are accepted by Metropolitan Touring Peru, if they are RECEIVED AND CLEARED by Metropolitan Touring Peru ́s bank before the deadline set by Metropolitan Touring Peru. A scan or picture of a check does not represent proof of payment.
CANCELLATION CHARGES
Different cancellation charges apply to different hotels and service providers. Cancellation charges tend to rise as the date of arrival approaches. Metropolitan Touring Peru will spare no effort to maintain these charges as low as possible. However, in general terms, these will amount to:
For FITs:
- 50% if cancellation takes place between 45 and 31 days before arrival date.
- 80% if cancellation takes place between 30 and 16 days before arrival date.
- 100% if cancellation takes place between 15 and 0 days before arrival date.
For GROUPS:
- 50% if cancellation takes place between 60 and 46 days before arrival date.
- 80% if cancellation takes place between 45 and 16 days before arrival date.
- 100% if cancellation takes place between 15 and 0 days before arrival date.
Important notes:
- Tighter pre-payment conditions and cancellation charges apply to some specific dates, hotels, cruises, or service providers. These conditions will be specifically mentioned by our travel consultant during the organization phase of the trip or itinerary, and previous to the request for payment.
- In case suppliers apply tighter cancellation and penalty policies due to high season or other reasons, Metropolitan Touring Peru reserves the right to change the cancellation policies stated above.
CANCELLATIONS AND REIMBURSEMENTS
Notifications of cancellations and requests for reimbursements must be made in writing to Metropolitan Touring Peru including all relevant details, to receive immediate attention from Metropolitan Touring Peru.
LOST PERSONAL ITEMS AND LOST BAGGAGE
Although events of loss of personal items are infrequent, Metropolitan Touring Peru recommends that all guests arrive in Peru with their own travel insurance that covers the loss of luggage and personal items. It is also advisable to use safety deposit boxes in hotels for cash, documents, jewelry, and other valuables. Metropolitan Touring Peru is not responsible for:
- Lost or delayed luggage during international or domestic flights.
- Loss of money, jewelry, cell phones, cameras, laptops, or any other personal items.
- Items forgotten by guests, including in hotels, in vehicles, during tours, etc.
- Metropolitan Touring Peru's liability for lost luggage is limited to compensation of US$ 350 per piece of luggage, exclusively if lost during a ground transfer provided by Metropolitan Touring Peru. Backpacks or any other piece of luggage carried by hand will not be covered by Metropolitan Touring Peru. In case of lost luggage during a land transfer provided by Metropolitan Touring Peru:
- The affected guest will have to file a police report, with the assistance of Metropolitan Touring Peru’s staff, and provide all possible information to Metropolitan Touring Peru’s staff, including a copy of the police report.
- A period of 30 days will be required to pursue an investigation before the piece of luggage is considered officially lost.
- Any approved compensation for lost luggage is to be wired to the bank account of the affected guest. No intermediaries are allowed.
Metropolitan Touring Peru will always do its best to locate any items lost or forgotten by a guest and to ship the found item to the address provided by the guest. However, Metropolitan Touring Peru will require the guest to accept and cover the shipping charges associated with the delivery.
REGARDING ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES
Metropolitan Touring Peru offers its clients various soft adventure and adventure activities operated directly or through the best and safest suppliers in the Peruvian market. However, clients who demand and purchase soft-adventure or adventure activities from Metropolitan Touring Peru are aware that such activities involve, by nature, a certain degree of risk, and they accept and assume the risks, implications, and consequences derived from their practice. Guests or travelers who demand and purchase soft-adventure or adventure activities from Metropolitan Touring Peru accept that Metropolitan Touring Peru, its associates, or suppliers will not be responsible for any consequences associated with the practice of soft-adventure and adventure activities. These acceptances also include family members or groups of travelers participating in any soft adventure or adventure activity. Soft-adventure and adventure activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Mountain biking, Cycling, Motorbiking, Horseback riding, Ziplining, Mountain climbing, Trekking, Kayaking, Rafting, Stand-up paddling, Kite surfing, Windsurfing, Surfing, Sandboarding, Paragliding, Sand-buggy riding. Metropolitan Touring Peru, its associates, and/or suppliers may request guests or travelers to sign additional waivers accepting the risks and implications of soft adventure and adventure activities. Refusal to sign a waiver associated with a soft adventure or adventure activity will result in the automatic cancellation of the scheduled activity, without the right to reimbursement or compensation.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Puerto Maldonado Trip:
EQUIPMENT AND LUGGAGE It is important that you Lodge only necessary clothing and equipment to the lodge in your carry-on luggage. Due to weight and space limitations on the boat, passenger luggage is limited to 10 kg. (22 lbs.) per person.
Additional luggage will be stored in the facilities designated by each Lodge in Puerto Maldonado.
Carry-on Baggage Allowance
Each passenger may take to Machu Picchu Trip 1 bag or backpack 05kg/11lb, 62 inches/115cm (length + height + width). Baggage that exceed the measures will not be allowed.
