Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro Airport and transferred to your hotel. Welcome to Africa!
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park. This beautiful park is bustling with diverse wildlife, set amid majestic baobab trees. During the dry season, the animals congregate along the banks of the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water supply in Maasai land. Your days here are spent exploring the park on game drives and guided bush walks.
Morning departure to Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact caldera (collapsed volcano).
Descend into the 102-square-mile Ngorongoro Crater to view game on the vast grasslands of the crater floor. Spectacular animal life can be found throughout the year due to the permanent availability of grass and water. Ngorongoro is one of the most impressive game haunts in Africa and has been designated a World Heritage Site. Local wildlife includes black-maned lion, the highly endangered black rhino, wildebeest, zebra, elephant, hippo, jackal, and hyena, the most important predator within the crater. The bird life is also prolific with flocks of flamingos on the soda lake as well as other species of water and plains birds.
Return to the rim to relax this evening at your comfortable lodge built into the lush rain-forested rim of the crater.
Depart this morning for the Serengeti, with a stop along the way to visit Olduvai Gorge, the famous archeological site where the Leakey’s unearthed the remains of Australopithecus, Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus.
Continue on to the plains of the Serengeti and your seasonal camp, with a game drive enroute.
After breakfast, you will be driven to the airstrip for a flight to Arusha where you will be met by a local representative for lunch and a bit of shopping at the Cultural Heritage Center. Then you are transferred to KIA Lodge near the Kilimanjaro airport where a dayroom has been arranged for your convenience.
Take the hotel shuttle to Kilimanjaro airport for your evening departure and homeward-bound journey.
