Drive your rental car to the eastern coast on the Coromandel Peninsula (160 km, 100 miles, 2.5 hours). The Coromandel has beautiful golden beaches and bush walks. Soak your body in a natural thermal spring at Hahei Beach - ensure you go at low tide! Visit Cathedral Cove and see marine wildlife at the Hahei Marine Reserve. Adventure options include scenic boat trips, sea kayaking, scuba diving, surfing and scooter rides.

Travel via the Waikato region to the famous Waitomo caves (225 km, 140 miles, 3 hours). Go blackwater rafting through the caves or abseil through the darkness! No wetsuit is required for the Ruakuri Cave, however if you prefer the more adventurous ‘Black Water Rafting’ or abseiling (4 or 7 hours), let us know to include it in your itinerary. In the afternoon arrive in Rotorua (140 km, 87 miles, 2 hours). If you’re doing the 7-hour abseiling tours, you'll need to stay in the Waitomo region for one night.

Drive from the Nelson-Tasman region via the Buller Gorge to the lush rain forest of the West Coast. Today you’ll be in the Punakaiki region. The Great Coast Road is one of the Top 10 Coastal Drives in the world. Drive along the ancient limestone cliffs of Paparoa National Park, stop at Charleston for underground rafting, see the famous Pancake Rocks and Blowholes at Punakaiki. Visit the seal colony at Cape Foulwind.

Travel through New Zealand heartland (Punakaiki to Fox: 240 km, 146 miles, 3.5 hours). There are few towns on the 600 kms of coastal road between Karamea and Jackson Bay, but plenty of beautiful native forests, beaches and lagoons. Explore the goldfield walkway at Ross and stop by the shores of Lake Ianthe. A visit to the White Heron colony near Whataroa is a must-do. The town of Hokitika is famous for New Zealand Pounamu (Jade).

On the afternoon of your arrival, we recommend the ‘LOTR walk’ along the Waiau River (on the Kepler Track), starting from ‘Rainbow Ridge’ swing bridge between Te Anau and Manapouri. The Fiordland region consists of 1.3 million hectares of untouched national heritage park with great outdoor activities. Eenjoy the drama of giant waterfalls and enormous fiords. Stay a minimum of 2 nights.

Milford Sound is carved from glaciers during the ice ages and is breathtaking.a fusion of spectacular natural features (125 km, 78 miles, 2.5 hours one-way). The Fiords rise vertically from dark waters when it rains, the waterfalls are awesome. To avoid the 5-hour drive from Te Anau to Milford, join a local tour into Milford Sounds and enjoy a nature cruise in the fjord. Depart from Te Anau in a small, modern coach and be driven along the spectacular Milford Road.With a maximum of 11 people, this is a premium experience. Included in the tour, is a leisurely Nature Boat Cruise to the Tasman Sea. Enjoy the magnificent scenery and wildlife. At the end of the cruise, the overland part of the tour begins. Choose a series of short walks with your nature guide or a 2.5 hour walk on the Routeburn Track to Key Summit. Return back to Te Anau around 5.30pm.
