COVID-19: ACTIVITIES & SERVICES

Days 1 - 2: Meru National Park

Assuming you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the morning you will be met outside arrivals by our driver who will transfer you to Wilson Airport to board a scheduled flight on Air Kenya to Meru National Park. On arrival at the airstrip in Meru you will be met by your driver/guide from Elsa's Kopje and take a short drive up the hill back to the lodge arriving in time to settle in before lunch.

Your days on safari can be spent as you wish and your driver/guides will discuss each day with you as you go along. The norm is an early wake up with coffee/tea around 6am to depart on a pre-breakfast game drive at about 630am. Being so close to the equator Kenya’s sunrise and sunset varies by an hour at most throughout the year, the temperature can also be comparatively cold in the early mornings and evenings, so it is a good idea to dress in layers when you go out on a drive as the middle of the day will be hot and dry.

After a sumptuous breakfast, the middle of the day is yours to do with as you please, many people go back to their tents and have a shower, perhaps read and take a nap before lunch or play board games in the main mess/lounge area of camp. After lunch you have a few hours to relax again before heading out around 330/4pm on an afternoon game drive – perhaps follow up on the pride of lion you saw in the morning, or head out to look for an elusive leopard or cheetah. After the game drive is time for a well-deserved pre-dinner drink around the camp fire and a chance to swap stories with other guests.

Days 3 - 4: Kalama Conservancy

After an early breakfast you will be transferred down to Meru airstrip for your scheduled flight to Samburu. Arriving in Samburu an hour and a half later you will be met by your driver/guide from Saruni Samburu and take a game drive back to camp, arriving in plenty of time for lunch.

Days are normally hot, dry and sunny: the wildlife of Samburu is best seen during the early hours or late hours of the day, but during the central hours of the day there is a great concentration of animals along the river and no tourists.

Night game drives are also very special you you may be able to see some rare nocturnal species. Why not go to a secret spot for a bush dinner, or to the river for a picnic lunch that allows you to be with elephants, waterbuck, lion, impala, giraffe all the Samburu species that go and drink water.

On a game walk you will feel, touch and smell the trees, the bushes, the rocks and the tracks - and even the animal droppings - that make the area unique. To walk with the Samburu warriors in the African bush is a fantastic experience and you will learn how they use the berries and the leaves, about their traditions and about their life.

Safaris do not only have to focus on wildlife but also on people, or what can be called ‘cultural tourism’. You can visit a genuine Samburu village called Kiltimany, these Samburu are the ancient custodians of the land around you, and as an integral part of the Saruni Samburu experience you will see how they live, how they protect the environment and in what ways they differ from other African tribes. Be prepared for the Samburu to ask you questions too as they will be curious about you! Consider it an exchange of ideas and information.

From game drives to sundowners and gourmet meals to evenings around the fireside, Naibor Camp offers you a variety of excellent things to see and do.

The main focus at Naibor is to drive out from camp daily to observe and photograph the extraordinary concentrations of wildlife. Bush meals and sundowners are popular, and are often enjoyed in conjunction with a game drive extra activity.

Cultural visits to the nearby Masai communities just outside the reserve can also be arranged. You can visit one of their villages, observe traditional dances and interact with these very traditional people.
