Day 1: Johannesburg

Welcome to South Africa!

On arrival at Oliver Tambo International Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and assisted by a representative for your transfer to the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel.

This evening you will enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the hotel with a full briefing by Conrad of your amazing safari that lies ahead.

Days 2 - 4: Missing Point

This morning you will be met by Conrad and your driver for your transfer to Oliver Tambo International Airport for your flight to Maun, Botswana.

On arrival at Maun Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and assisted by a Wilderness Safaris representative to your light aircraft for your onward circuit air transfer to Kalahari Plains.

The Kalahari is seeped in myth and awe, it is one of the most inaccessible areas of southern Africa, and at certain times of the year, teams with wildlife. Herds of desert-adapted Springbok and Oryx dot the landscapes whilst the sky above at night is one of the clearest skies imaginable.

We have three days to explore this vast area - the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is one of the largest reserves in the world (It is the size of Switzerland). We will attempt to track and watch the famed Kalahari Lions - huge cats that move vast distances in the reserve to find prey. We will also visit the famous "Deception valley" - made famous by American authors Mark and Delia Owens, who did pioneering predator research in the park.

Due to the distances involved, we may opt for all-day game drives with picnics for lunches. Kalahari Plains is in its own concession within the park, miles from anywhere. It is set overlooking a vast plain and is a marvelously appointed camp. The best part of the camp, perhaps, is the 'sky-beds' - you can opt to sleep on the roof of the chalet (safely away from predators), underneath the most spectacular sky imaginable. Wilderness Safaris owns and runs this marvelous property to their well-loved high standards

Premium imported brands and champagne.

Days 5 - 7: Makgadikgadi Salt Pans

At a time to be advised by camp management, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight transfer from Kalahari Plains Camp to San Camp.

This is an extraordinary charter flight - hugely scenic over the vast Maghadighadi Pans. These pans are the largest continuous salt pans on Earth, areas so vast that one can lose oneself in its enormity. It is a surreal place, like being on the Moon, and San Camp is situated on the very edge of this incredible landscape.

We have three days at this marvelously luxurious camp to explore this stark but deeply moving area. At this time of year, huge herds of Wildebeest and zebra move through this area, followed of course by the predators. Also found in this area are rarities like aardvark and even brown hyena. The highlight of exploration here is perhaps the use of 'quadbikes' - four wheelers which are used to get to the middle of the great salt pans. A morning is also spent foraging wit habituated meerkats - the suricates which are incredibly adorable.

Uncharted Africa is the owner of San Camp, and their standards are incredibly high. The company is known for its incredible hosting, guiding and food.

Days 8 - 11: Okavango Delta

At a time to be advised by camp management, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight transfer from San Camp to Maun Airport.

On arrival at Maun Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and assisted by a Wilderness Safaris representative to your light aircraft for your onward circuit air transfer to Kwetsani Camp.

The contrast between these areas could not be bigger! From the nothingness of the vast Maghadighadi to the over exuberance of the original "garden of Eden" - The Okavango Delta. Under every tree, behind every corner is something in the 'delta - huge numbers of antelope, elephant herds, giraffe, and predators. It is one of the largest pristine areas left on Earth and one of the most important World Heritage Sites of the planet. It is a world of lush grass, papyrus and seasonally flooded plains full of animals and plants of every description.

We have four nights in one of the most remote areas of the Okavango Delta, the famed Jao reserve. Kwetsani has the best of both worlds - water-based activities (boating exploration as well as dug-out canoes, called Mekoros) ,as well as incredible game drives.

Cathy and David Kays are the owners of the Jao reserve and Kwetsani Camp. The camp is sophisticated and stylish, and is exclusive for our group. The camp is situated on an island in the tree tops, looking out over a vast plain of the Okavango.
