Day 1

Sossusvlei

Day notes

On arrival at Windhoek Eros Airport (WDH) you will be met by the dmAFRICA representative who will assist you with the arrangements for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Little Kulala, located in the Sossusvlei region of Namibia.

On arrival you will be met by your guide for the short transfer to the Kulala Camp, where arrangements are for 2 nights in 1 x Tented Room including all meals, park fees, scheduled activities, bed levy, laundry, local drinks and house wine (excluding premier brands and selected wines)

Little Kulala, a luxurious desert retreat, is situated in the private 37 000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve - the gateway to Namibia's Sand Sea with its towering red dunes and clear starry skies.

Early morning guided game drives to the spectacular towering dunes of Sossusvlei are through a private gate into the reserve. Sossusvlei is situated within the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, which itself is part of the Namib Naukluft National Park that stretches 400km south of Walvis Bay and is sandwiched between the west coast and the escarpment that runs parallel more than 100km inland. Its huge red dunes and flat valley floors make up the archetypical view of the Namib that is world famous.

Guided drives and walks are also offered on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve with incredible views, desert-adapted wildlife and plants. A balloon safari at extra cost offers a unique experience soaring silently above the desert before landing for a champagne breakfast.

Twyfelfontein

Day notes

After breakfast, at a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred to Little Kulala’s airstrip for your light aircraft transfer to Damaraland Camp.

You are met on arrival by your guide and transferred to the Damaraland Camp where arrangements are for 2 nights in 1 x Tented Room including all meals, park fees, scheduled activities, bed levy, laundry, local drinks and house wine (excluding premier brands and selected wines).

Situated on the northern face of the Huab River valley and looking south toward the imposing Brandberg Mountains, Damaraland Camp offers its guests endless vistas. Early morning mists generated by the clash between the icy Atlantic Ocean and the warm desert air of the Skeleton Coast, drift inland along the river sand canyon, providing sustenance to the flora and fauna of the region. This comfortable and friendly camp offers walks and drives in one of the best wilderness areas in Namibia. Although wildlife is not concentrated, Damaraland Camp is situated where the rare Desert Elephant roams, alongside Gemsbok (Oryx), Springbok, Ostrich and other hardy desert animals. Rare succulent plants somehow manage to eke out an existence in this harsh countryside.

Damaraland Camp accommodates guests in 10 large en-suite adobe-style thatched units, with en-suite facilities including flush toilets and showers with hot and cold running water. The stone living area combines the dining room and bar and an open fire is enjoyed on calm evenings. There is a swimming pool next to the bar. Activities throughout the area are in 4x4 vehicles and on foot as well as mountain bikes.

Day 5

Hartmann Valley

Day notes

After lunch, at a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred from Damaraland to the appropriate airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to the Serra Cafema, Hartman Valley in the far north of Namibia, remote, spectacular and amazing location to experience on the banks of the Kunene River.

You are met on arrival by your guide for the scenic drive to the Serra Cafema Camp where arrangements are for 3 nights in 1 x Tented Room includes all meals, park fees, scheduled activities, bed levy, laundry, local drinks and house wine (excluding premier brands and selected wines).

Serra Cafema Camp is one of the most remote camps in all of Southern Africa. Inspired by the pioneering spirit of the area and the remote explorer ethos, Serra Cafema is an unexpected oasis of luxury and sumptuous spaciousness perched by the Kunene River which forms Namibia’s northernmost border with Angola.

Situated under large shady trees overlooking the dunes and the Kunene River the camp comprises 8 raised canvas and thatch units each with en-suite bathroom, retractable glass doors and abundant outdoor lounging, dining and shower decks.

The Ozonganda, or public homestead area, comprises indoor and outdoor dining areas, sunken lounge, river bar, library, curio shop and swimming pool.

Serra Cafema shares this region with the wonderful and colourful Himba people who are some of the last true nomadic people in Africa. The Kunene River is the only permanent source of water and creates an oasis along its banks surrounded by rugged mountains and sand dunes.

Activities include enjoying the breathtaking landscape scenes with springbok, ostrich and gemsbok (oryx) dotted here and there, traversing the sand dunes in 4x4 Land Rovers and boating on the Kunene River. Walking in the remote mountain and river valleys is also a highlight. Serra Cafema is often visited by the native Ovahimba families who live in the nearby vicinity, which gives guests the opportunity to learn about their lifestyle and traditions. One of the highlights of Serra Cafema is the carefully guided quad bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes, while allowing guests to experience a true desert.

Okavango Delta

Day notes

Transfer from the camp to the Hartman Valley Airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Maun, Botswana where you clear border formalities before proceeding by light aircraft for the 25 minutes scenic flight to Jao Camp in the Okavango Delta.

You are met on arrival by your guide and transferred by 4 x 4 vehicle to Jao Camp where you stay for 2 nights in luxury accommodation where arrangements include all meals, daily activities, laundry and drinks (excluding premium import brands)

Jao Camp is located on a large, remote island in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta. With varied habitats ranging from waterways and lagoons to dry Kalahari grasslands and open floodplains, Jao can offer both land and water experiences, depending on the current flood levels. This luxurious camp is a tranquil base for a wonderful Okavango experience.

In the central region of the concession, vast open floodplains provide some of the most stunning scenery of the region. Jao Camp lies in the southern side of the plains, an area with beautiful islands fringed with riverine forests.

The camp has nine spacious, beautiful tents, each individually handcrafted. These twin-bedded canvas and thatched rooms are situated beneath a canopy of shady trees and have en-suite facilities, as well as an outdoor shower for the more adventurous. Built on raised decks, each has a private sala for afternoon siestas and offers wonderful views of the surrounding floodplains. In addition to the lounge and dining area, there are two plunge pools and an outdoor boma for dining under the stars, complemented by wines from an excellent wine cellar. Jao also has a salon where a wide range of massage therapies are offered.

Mokoros, boat trips, fishing, nature walks, day and night game drives and birding are usually on offer all year round. There are two platform hides in the concession. During an unusually high flood season, game drives begin by boating out to a nearby Hunda Island where the vehicles are waiting, and the drive begins from there. Huge herds of red lechwe can be seen, followed by their primary predator - prides of lion. Other game includes elephant, buffalo, leopard, tsessebe, zebra and wildebeest, hippo and crocodile. The birdlife is overwhelming. Many bird species are resident such as Meyer's parrot, African harrier hawk, black egret, coppery-tailed coucal, malachite Kingfisher, hamerkop and black vrake being some of the avian treasures here.

Mombo Concession

Day notes

Transfer to the airstrip for the 15 minutes scenic flight by light aircraft across the Delta to Mombo Camp, renowned as one of the best wildlife lodges in this part of Africa.

On arrival at Mombo Airstrip you are met by your guide and transferred to Mombo Camp for 2 nights in luxury accommodation where arrangements include all meals, daily activities, laundry and drinks (excluding premium import brands)

Mombo Camp has arguably the best big game viewing in this part of Africa. Located in the Mombo Concession on Chief's Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana, the sheer numbers and variety of wildlife all year round defy description. Mombo Camp is the Africa only seen in documentaries: from elephant to buffalo to tiny steenbok, vast herds of herbivores are trailed by numerous predators on the hunt!

Built under large, shady trees and overlooking the floodplains which teem with wildlife all year round, Mombo Camp comprises nine spacious tents raised two metres from the ground. Bathrooms are en suite, with both indoor and outdoor showers. Magnificent vistas are the order of the day, with all the rooms, the sala, long veranda and lounge area taking advantage of the very best that the Okavango Delta has to offer. Mombo Camp's main living and dining areas are under thatch, but a boma adds traditional flavour to a delicious dinner under the stars. There is also a plunge pool.

The best big game viewing experience starts on the veranda at Mombo Camp, with wonderful concentrations of game occurring right in front of the camp. Guests often find animals wandering past, right under their rooms!

Activities at Mombo Camp include morning and afternoon game drives. Open 4x4s provide an excellent vantage for viewing the high concentrations of plains game and all the predators - including the big cats. Lion sightings are frequent. Guests at Mombo Camp can also expect to see leopard, wild dog, spotted hyena, large herds of buffalo, elephant, white rhino, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest and Burchell's zebra.

Black and white rhino have been reintroduced to the region with outstanding success ,thanks to the Botswana Rhino Reintroduction Programme.
