Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve

Day notes

After an early breakfast you depart in your private aircraft and fly to Pietersburg to clear South African customs then onto Buffalo Range in southeast Zimbabwe. Clear Zimbabwe customs before flying to Lone Star, the Malilangwe Private Wildlife Reserve's airstrip. Tucked away in the southeastern corner of Zimbabwe lies one of Africa's finest game reserves.

When the conservators of The Malilangwe Trust searched for a site for a true six-star hotel, they were drawn to this rocky promontory overlooking the gorge of the Nyamasikana River in the same way that the Changana and the San Bushmen had gathered on this very hilltop on sacred days to honor the spirits of their people. They named it Pamushana – “A Place in the Sun”
The lodge, Pamushana has been described as the most stunning in Africa. Superlatives can be misleading but how else can you describe the lodge, which must rate as one of the very best - if not the best - on the African continent? It is certainly the finest in Zimbabwe. The six villas are magnificent, each with its own pool set in a wooden deck from which there are stunning views. Complete with a lounge, guest toilet in a conical tower reminiscent of that at Great Zimbabwe, a bathroom with bath and inside and outside showers, the décor is in a word - opulent. Huge picture windows bring the pristine surrounding bush almost right into each villa. All the villas are fully air-conditioned and have ceiling fans. You enter the Lodge through mosaic tiled pillars facing a 'reflection pool' of shimmering water with a backdrop of mountains and the sky beyond. There is a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, library and a shop full of unusual gifts.

Perched on top of an escarpment, with spectacular panoramic views is an opulent, luxurious and unrivalled celebration of the glory of the African bush – Pamushana – clearly one of the most exquisite safari lodges in Africa. Each of it’s seven villas are spacious to the extreme, built with intricate hand-hewn stone work, exotic works of art and richly textured materials collected from all over Africa. Walls of sliding glass lead out from your bedroom onto a teak game VIP/HONEYMOON SUITE: All villas are the same. One villa has a very special view and this is used for honeymooners. Champagne and private dinners in Honeymoon room if desired.

Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve

Day notes

After an early morning game drive and breakfast transfer to the airstrip. Your plane will fly you to Buffalo Range to clear Zimbabwe customs then to Mmabatho to clear South African customs. From there fly to Tswalu Kalahari Reserve in the heart of the malaria-free Northern Cape Province.

At Tswalu time stops and relaxation begins. The dramatic scenery acts as the perfect backdrop to the exquisite lodge, Motse. For private groups, Tarkuni is a private home and available on a daily rate. Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is the largest privately owned game reserve in South Africa and hosts a wide variety of animals and birds.
Accommodation at Tswalu epitomises the stylish yet rustic elegance typical of luxury game reserve accommodation. Indeed, no creature comfort has been spared for guests at this quintessentially African dwelling. From the indoor and outdoor heated shower in every suite (the outdoor version looks out across the Kalahari plain) to the private suite sundecks and a library, this is the essence of modern luxury with an African feel. At Tswalu, dining entails many options. At the main house in the Motse, guests can either enjoy meals in the dining room, or in the privacy of their own suite lounge. Above all, Tswalu's exclusive game reserve accommodation achieves a rustic feel without compromising its private and luxurious facilities.

The emphasis at Tswalu is on exclusivity, which is why the entire reserve can accommodate no more than 30 people at a time. The Motse is an African village consisting of eight authentically stone walled and thatch-roofed bungalows. Motse is a Tswana word for 'village' - Tswana is one of South Africa's 11 official languages and is spoken widely in Southern Africa including the Northern Cape.

Tarkuni is a separate, freestanding African dwelling that is ideal for a small party or family. With accommodation for nannies, as well as its own private sundeck, Tarkuni is the ultimate in luxury game reserve accommodation with its unparalleled exclusivity and personal service. Tarkuni's surroundings are elegantly simple with a luxury swimming pool opening to the remarkable scene of animals drinking at a nearby watering hole.

Set in its own private area of the Tswalu luxury African game reserve, Tarkuni is the ultimate in secluded luxury. Built amid two rolling mountain ranges, Tarkuni is perfect for families and small groups of 8 - 12 guests. The accommodation contains four luxury bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and outdoor heated shower, open plan lounge and dining room, library, covered patio and heated swimming pool. Specific accommodation for children is available, with two sets of bunk beds and separate nanny quarters with two single beds and a bathroom en suite.

Guests at Tarkuni luxury game reserve can find calm and contemplation at the "sala ", sun themselves at the pool or retire to lofty bedrooms with vistas that beguile the most jaded traveller. Private game viewing vehicles are included as well as a dedicated chef to allow the luxury of flexibility. In short, Tarkuni is game reserve accommodation that is completely self-contained.
