Day 2: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Days 3 - 5: Eastern Hwange National Park

You are transferred to the Victoria Falls airport for the hopper flight to Hwange.

Safari activities from Little Makalolo Camp centre around 4WD game drives and walking safaris. Game drives take place in the morning, beginning before sunrise, stopping for coffee at mid-morning and returning in time for brunch. Guests on a morning walk depart at sunrise, normally being driven out of camp for about 15 minutes before a two–three-hour walk, and returning in time for brunch.

There are also many hides and waterholes in the Makalolo area, including a ‘tree-house’ hide above a waterhole at the front of Makalolo Plains Camp, and a ‘log-pile’ hide beside the waterhole in front of Little Makalolo. This can seat up to four people (including your guide) and allows you to get very close to elephants at the waterhole.

About 90 minutes’ drive from Little Makalolo, just outside the national park, is the small town of Ngamo where there are two community-run schools. The owners of Little Makalolo are heavily involved in community projects to try and improve the lives of children in this area, illustrating the positive impact that tourist dollars are having on the people of Zimbabwe. Guests at Little Makalolo can visit the town and see some of these projects, which include a borehole to provide children and teachers with fresh drinking water, the re-thatching of school buildings, and the provision of basic first-aid kits and health care. Such visits are of course completely optional, but may provide an interesting change of scenery for those who would normally see only the wildlife of Hwange, and little of the local people.

Days 6 - 7: Lake Kariba

After the morning activity and breakfast you are transferred to the airstrip for the hopper flight to Bumi Hills.

Accompany one of our experienced and knowledgeable guides on an exciting game drive out on the concession in an open 4×4 game viewer where you are likely to spot a wide variety of game including four of Africa’s Big 5, over 300 bird species as well as numerous insects, reptiles and trees! The elephants that reside around the lodge are renowned for being some of the calmest in Zimbabwe almost guaranteeing you incredibly close up interactions with these gentle giants on every game drive!

Strategically placed hides and platforms located at different spots around the estate offer the perfect opportunity to let the wildlife come to you. Sitting in a hide offers the best possible photographic opportunities as you will get up close and personal to a variety of species going about their normal day.

Boat cruises offer a completely different game viewing perspective as your boat skipper expertly manoeuvres your craft along the edge of the lake in search of wildlife coming down to quench their thirst. Ensure to take your camera along on these activities as the photo opportunities are amazing especially in the evening with a famous Kariba Sunset as your backdrop!

An early morning walk in the wilds of Africa enriches the soul by getting you closer to nature than on any other activity! Accompany our experienced and armed guides on this activity and learn about a myriad of smaller things, insects, birds and plants with the chance of bumping into big game at any time.

Pay a visit to the sprawling mud-hut Tonga village under Chief Mola. A visit is both humbling and life-enriching to witness how these friendly, spiritual people survive under such harsh conditions and how they keep their centuries-old traditions alive along the length of the Zambezi River.

Days 8 - 10: Mana Pools National Park

After the morning activitiy and breakfast you are transferred to the airtrip for the flight to Ruckomechi Camp.

Situated on the western boundary of the iconic Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi Camp is a photographer’s paradise, whether in a vehicle, on a boat or on foot.

Game drives early in the morning or late afternoon take place in open 4X4 vehicles, taking in a coffee break or a sundowner at a scenic spot. Given the diversity of habitats in the area, a wide variety of wildlife may be seen.

Cruises down this stretch of the Zambezi River are in nine-seater pontoons or in a six-seater speed boat. Canoes are a more adventurous option to see the large numbers of waterbirds and other wildlife that are attracted to the river and seasonal pans.

Mana Pools National Park is a remote, beautiful place that is best experienced on foot, led by a professional guide. This thrilling way of exploring the surrounding bush often heralds many exciting sightings.

Bream (tilapia), barbel (catfish) and tigerfish are the some of the more common fish found at Mana Pools. Catch and release is practised at all Wilderness Safaris camps and keen fishermen are always encouraged to bring their own equipment as we only carry basic fishing tackle. *This activity is subject to the availability of boats and is at an additional cost, per boat per hour payable direct.

There is no better way of falling asleep than being serenaded by the sounds of nature while you gaze up at the starry skies of Africa. Our romantic Star Bed is situated near a productive waterhole.

Day 11: End of Itinerary

After the morning activity and breakfast you are flown back to Victoria Falls.

The trip can be extended to Cape Town or Kruger Park in South Africa.
