Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp | Lake Magadi
Lemala Ngorongoro is intimately set in a delightful ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. As it is located next to the quiet Lemala crater access road on the eastern side, a key advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and easy drive down on to the crater floor in the morning; Lemala guests usually have an hour’s head start over others descending via the far busier Seneto crater access road on the western rim. And of course can stay later in the afternoon before returning to camp. As Africa’s game is most active in the early morning and late afternoon this means better wildlife experiences for Lemala guests.
Game drives from camp may start as early as 6.15am and guests can be down among Ngorongoro’s abundant wildlife on the floor within 10-15 minutes – crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.

Enjoy a full day game drive on the crater floor. Considered an 8th wonder, here you will find a wide range of wildlife, including the elusive rhino. Our vehicles have charging facilities and a fridge with cold drinks. Our vehicles are driven by excellent guides who will ensure you see the best of what Ngorongoro has to offer. All vehicles on the crater floor are closed vehicles with pop up roofs.
No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional bush lunch. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, whilst your personal butler serves up a feast. Nothing is quite so essentially safari as this. Tailored service with cold drinks and your private chef preparing delicious meals surrounded by breath-taking surroundings in total privacy totally completes this Out of Africa experience. After enjoying your morning game drive, your guide will bring you to your private location within the Ngorongoro Crater where our team awaits to seat you.
Sundowners are more than just a happy hour. They are a very cherished African tradition and form an integral part of your safari experience. It is a time to relax, reminisce the day gone by, enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine around the camp fire with fellow travellers, and watch as the sun goes down over the Serengeti plains.
An authentic glimpse into the distinctive Maasai culture is a must whilst in Tanzania. Preservation of their proud traditions has set the Maasai apart from other indigenous groups in Tanzania, and embodies a side of Africa with which few outsiders can contact.
A walk in the highlands is a sensory adventure like no other. Tanzania is one of the best safari countries for walking, with a number of parks allowing guests to experience a more up-close-and-personal encounter. Follow in the footsteps of animals, accompanied by highly skilled and knowledgeable guides. Along the way you might identify animal tracks, learn about fascinating plants, spot some of the smaller animals and insects (you wouldn’t necessarily see from a vehicle) as well as feel the buzz of tracking some of the larger game. There is no better way to learn about the bush.
Tanzania has great appeal for families. Seeing animals is very exciting for children, and nothing can prepare a parent for the delight of watching their child’s reaction when they catch sight of a lion, giraffe or elephant for the very first time. Lemala Cubs offers our special guests under the age of 12, a range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the African bush. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, showing future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife, and keep kids well entertained while mum and dad relax.
A cultural excursion around the village of Mto wa Mbu you will spend a few hours discovering the area using the most favored method of transport in the area. You will visit the rice fields, Makonde carvers, tinga-tinga painters, finishing in the banana plantations for a local lunch made by one of the beautiful local mamas.
Ngorongoro Main Dining Area

Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp | Central Serengeti
Lemala Ewanjan is an authentic intimate tented camp set in a secluded part of the game-rich Seronera Valley in Central Serengeti. The Seronera region is an important wildlife transition zone between the southern grasslands and the northern woodlands and is renowned for its year-round game viewing due to its abundance of water in the many rivers, as well as for its large populations of resident big cats. Additionally, between April and June, and again between November and January, this area is crossed by the annual wildebeest migration, which provides always thrilling wildlife drama.
We have carefully positioned Lemala Ewanjan right at the end of a blind valley, so other vehicles will not interrupt your view across the plains during the day, and in the evening, you can enjoy uninterrupted sunsets with no electric lights in sight.

No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional outdoor, open-air lunch or dinner. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, while your personal butler serves up a feast. Rhino Experience - In The Serengeti Supporting Ecotourism and conservation of endangered Eastern Black Rhinos in Serengeti National Park. The greater Serengeti Ecosystem offers a number of habitats suitable for a stable black rhino population to thrive and several projects have been implemented to conserve the species in Tanzania and Kenya. The Serengeti National Park in particular has wonderful potential and the Conservation Project we visit is doing a great job of both monitoring and protecting this critical population.
Before heading off into the field guests visit the Michael Gryzmek Memorial Museum and the Black Rhino Conservation Visitor Centre to listen to a detailed explanation of the Rangers’ role in the protection and monitoring of the critically endangered Eastern Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis michaeli) also known as the East African Black Rhinoceros, a subspecies of the Black Rhinoceros that once was abundant in East Africa but has suffered due to decades of poaching.
Participating to the Black Rhinos watching activity will offer guests rare insight into the challenges of the Conservation Project, in particular how critically important it is to preserve the habitats on which rhino depend before protecting individual Rhino individuals and why human impact on these ecosystems needs to be monitored and controlled in order to assure a stable future in the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem for this iconic species.
The activity has a cost and the money will go directly to sustain the Rhino Conservation Project, assuring the rangers will have the funds to continue to patrol and protect the animals 24/7, monitor them through the GPS devices, and the necessary equipment needed for their day-to-day duties, a lifetime dedication effort to save the species from the edge of extinction.
After a short briefing on how to behave in the field - and crucially how to turn off geo-tagging on phones and cameras in order to ‘hide’ the rhino locations - we embark with Rangers to track down rhinos in the field. We take advantage of the Ranger’s experience and intimate knowledge of these rare creatures to approach them with the barest of influence on their behavior. This rare and privileged experience is further enriched by the knowledge and experience of the Rangers who are tasked with escorting the Rhino on a daily basis and the scientific insight and knowledge of the field guides.

For the ultimate safari experience Karen Blixen Camp is using open Toyota Land Cruisers as our preferred safari vehicles. Game drives are undertaken with a highly experienced driver guide who is committed to share his or her knowledge on wild animal behavior and the complexity of the Mara Ecosystem. No more than six guests in each game vehicle assure the most comfortable experience with attention given to every visitor’s wildlife interest. Game driving at Karen Blixen Camp is an outstanding safari experience.
Game walks are serious matters as you will be walking right in middle of the big game land. Stand close to the mighty termite hills. Try and get a close to the abundance of plain games inhabiting the savannah, watching you with timid curiosity as you slowly approach them.
Game walking is an amazing experience. It gives you an intense feeling of the greatness and the astonishing Masai Mara Ecosystem. Walk almost quietly through the diverse arrays of grasses and enjoy the fresh smell of the plains and the prickly heat of the sun.
We will track and try to come close to the plain game as giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, topis, Grant’s gazelles, Thompson’s gazelles, yellow baboons and Kirks dikdik. Learning about these fascinating animals and to understand the very unique behavioral and anatomical adaptations helps fit them into their role in the Mara ecology. For security reasons we avoid any contact with the big five as the elephants, buffalos or any of the big cat predators.
Bird watching is an important and interesting element of every game drive and with over 550 bird species in the Masai Mara, endemics to East Africa, watching birds’ behavior is really an adventure on its own.
Take time to enjoy the birdlife of the Masai Mara. Birds are an important part of the Masai Mara Ecosystem. You can expect to see many different species from the larger cranes and bustards to the colorful rollers and bee-eaters.
One can also enjoy the rich bird life around the camp. The shady trees and shrubbery in the garden provide a lovely avian habitat that attracts birds all year round. The birds around the camp are used to people and this makes viewing them at close range easier than out in the field.
The combination of the riverine habitat which attracts water birds like hamerkops, herons, geese and sandpipers and the shady garden which is a haven for purple grenadiers, weavers, starlings, mousebirds, white-browed robin-chats, sooty chats and scarlet-chested sunbirds makes Karen Blixen Camp the ideal place to enjoy the wonder of Kenyan ornithology.
There is nothing like flying high above the magnificent African Savannah in a Hot Air Balloon; seeing nature at its best from a bird’ perspective is unimaginable. Until you’ve actually tried it.
The thrilling adventure begins as the first pink rays of light are seen on the sky. As the silent inflation system fills the balloon with hot air, the captain will ask you to climb into the basket, suspended below the balloon.
Your anxiety will be replaced with a rush of adrenaline and excitement as the balloon silently lifts from the ground and the Masai Mara will fall away under your feet and a whole new and amazing view appears with herds of elephants tottering beneath you.
After an hour of fascinating slow balloon cruising, you will land and a lavish champagne breakfast set amidst the bush awaits you. This is a truly magical and unforgettable safari experience.
Experience how the Masai people live in the middle of the bush with zebras grazing and lions roaring just outside their homes and get to know their culture and customs on a visit to the traditional Maasai village, the local primary school or the busy market day.
