Snorkelling & Diving
Bazaruto Marine National Park is one of the world’s premier snorkelling and diving destinations. Explore crystal clear waters and a range of dazzling soft coral ridges. Discover an underwater world that is home to over 100 species of coral, thousands of tropical fish species including kingfish, barracuda and mantarays, five kinds of dolphin, four types of whale and shark, all five marine sea turtle species, and the largest population of the rare dugong on the African east coast. Snorkel in tropical waters that seldom drop below 26 degrees Celsius. Enjoy trips and courses for beginners and advanced divers.
Dune Boarding
Bazaruto’s spectacularly high sand dunes tempt the more adventurous to clamber up the towering works of wind blown art and board back down at exhilarating speed. Dune boarding requires very little skill, and is appropriate for both children and adults, making it a great family escapade.
Deep Sea Fishing
The Bazaruto Archipelago has been a National Park since 1971, and a strong marine conservation policy of tag and release ensures sustainability, and many a prize catch! Anglers looking to test their skills can try their hand at catching sailfish and wahoo. The Bazaruto Archipelago is also renowned as Africa’s most productive area for black, blue and striped marlin, with black marlin catches coming in at a staggering 1000 pounds. While kingfish, queenfish, barracuda, mackerel and yellowfin tuna are just a few more of the fishing delights in store.
Water Sports
The Indian Ocean waters surrounding our private island provide ideal conditions for skimming the waves, with a choice of non-motorised water sport activities available. Discover the thrill of water skiing, knee or wake boarding. Kayak at a serene and relaxing pace you feel the ocean breeze atop the shimmering water.
Dugong, Turtle, Whale & Dolphin Watching
Set out on an offshore boat trip to view some of the Indian Ocean’s most mesmerising sea creatures. Spot dolphins dancing in the waves. Look out for humpback whales from August to October, and whale sharks from April to July. Turtles also frequent the waters, and leatherback, loggerhead and green turtles often come ashore to lay their eggs on Bazaruto’s sandy beaches. Lucky guests may also glimpse the elusive dugong, since Bazaruto boasts the largest population of this rare “sea cow” on the African east coast.
