Located in the Aus Mountains at 1,400m above sea level, Klein Aus is famed for its grand vistas of mountain scenery and sweeping desert plains overlooking Sperrgebiet - the former Forbidden Diamond region of Namibia. The main lodge is home to evocative Wild Horse Bar and restaurant (where you can dine inside or outside), or the cosy fireplace in the lounge - great on the chilly winter evenings. There's a curio shop and a swimming pool.  Solitude, silence, space and magnificent sunsets - these are the characteristics of the atmosphere at Eagle's Nest Chalets. A 15 minutes' drive from the reception at the Desert Horse Inn, 8 chalets are nestled against a mountain slope and afford unique views of the boundlessness of the desert. Each of the natural rock chalets sits between massive granite boulders and contains a bathroom, kitchenette, fireplace and private veranda. Meals are served at the Desert Horse Inn restaurant. Take-away breakfast or barbecue packs are available on request. This is a favourite location of ours, but the distance from the lodge, huge empty spaces and solitude is not for everyone! Activities at Klein Aus include unguided hiking trails (1-5hours), mountain biking, sunset nature drives and half/full days excursions around the Gondwana Reserve. It's a great base to explore and enjoy a day trip Luderitz and Kolmanskop Ghost Town, as well as the nearby and famous herd of Wild Desert Horses
