McBride's Camp
Discover the Remote Wilderness: McBrides' Camp in Kafue National Park
Experience Tranquillity and Adventure
McBrides' Camp is situated in one of the few remaining true wilderness areas of Kafue National Park, far removed from roads and human presence. The area becomes a sanctuary for wildlife, especially during the drier seasons, thanks to three cold springs that act as a natural magnet for animals.
Nestled on the serene banks of the picturesque Kafue River, McBrides' Camp offers an unparalleled escape into the heart of Kafue National Park. This tranquil retreat combines authentic simplicity with organic opulence, providing the perfect setting to unwind, relax, and immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of the Zambian wilderness.
Upon arrival, visitors are immediately enveloped by the profound peace of the wilderness. The main lodge exudes a welcoming warmth, a charming blend of rustic elegance and homely comfort. The whispering breeze, carrying the fragrant scent of wild orchids and freshly baked bread from the lodge’s hearth, weaves through the open dining area, adding an extra touch of hospitality to this wild retreat.
Not to be outdone, the predator density in our small corner of Kafue National Park is impressive. A resident lion pride, a coalition of male lions, our elusive leopard and a pack of wild dogs frequently visit our camp. Two groups of cheetahs also call this area home. Additionally, Kafue National Park is a birder’s paradise with almost 500 species, including the resident Bohm's bee-eater and Pels Fishing owl at McBrides' Camp.
Unique Features and Accommodations
Owing to its strategic position on a gently curving stretch of the meandering Kafue River and the confluence of the Mushingashi River, the lodge offers 180 degrees of magnificent riverfront scenery, with a resident group of 30 hippos as our neighbors. Easily accessible by road and by air, McBrides' Camp is a true wilderness paradise. During the peak safari season, charter companies like Skytrails, Procharter and Staravia can organize transfers to an airstrip just a 10-minute drive from the main camp. By road, the drive from Lusaka takes about five hours via the scenic and adventurous road through the National Park.
McBrides' Camp offers a range of accommodation to suit every preference. With seven thatched chalets, guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in nature. The chalets, available on an all-inclusive basis, are strategically located around the heart of the lodge, offering breathtaking views over the Kafue River. The campsite, nestled on a bushy land island, provides panoramic views of the river and the dambo on the other side, ensuring a truly immersive experience in the wild.
In the near future, our bushcamp will reopen, located 14 km from the main camp and accessible only by boat. This secluded retreat will allow guests to truly immerse themselves in nature in one of the few remaining true wilderness areas in Africa.
