Kanmangafuchi Abyss

Kanmangafuchi Abyss, nestled near the Daiya River in Nikko, is a tranquil gorge formed approximately 7,000 years ago due to an eruption from Mt. Nantai. Known for its peaceful riverside walking trail, the abyss offers visitors a unique sight: numerous small statues of Jizo, a bodhisattva believed to safeguard children, women, and travellers. Interestingly, while there are around 70 Jizo statues, a local legend suggests that the count varies each time one attempts to tally them.
