The Island River Lodge
Boma Sundowner Sessions
The boma area is adjacent to the expansive wooden deck are that houses the swimming pool and main lodge. It's a small nook complete with fireplace, and rests under a canopy of trees. Listen to the birds while you enjoy a casual sundowner around the fire.
Walks on the Island
The actual lodge property has plenty of meandering pathways around the 8 hectares of riverine vegetation on the island. There's a beautiful bridge that goes over the river, and provides a fantastic tranquil vantage point.
Bird Watching
Tall and majestic indigenous trees shroud most of the island, with three distinct biospheres making up the 8 hectare island. An abundance of birds can be observed, including the trumpeter hornbill and Pel’s fishing-owl. There are actually over 365 species of bird in the Blyde River Canyon, making it an absolute birder's paradise.
