We invite you on an extraordinary 24-day voyage by private jet that follows the paths of ancient spice routes to reveal some of the world's most fascinating cultural treasures and wild creatures in eight countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
HOSTED THROUGHOUT BY EXPERTS
The co-founder of Bushtracks Expeditions, David Tett, will lead this 24-day epic journey that will retrace the path of ancient trade routes, beginning at the foot of Mount Etna, sweeping through desert, beaches, savanna, rolling grassland, and riverine forests, then ending in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. With six generations of African heritage, David has distinct knowledge and perspective of all things Africa. In recruiting a series of regional and global experts in their fields, each with specific contextual knowledge that will further add to your experience, David has set the stage for you to learn and draw from numerous perspectives – archaeology, biology, botany, history, and conservation, among others.
Here are just a few of the Experts you’ll meet on this journey:
Dr. Carl Safina - Expedition Host, Speaker and Guide
A renowned conservationist and writer, Dr. Safina’s work explores how humans are changing the living world and what the changes mean for non-human beings and for us. His ability to fuse scientific understanding, emotional connection, and a moral call to action has won him numerous recognitions over the years, including a MacArthur “genius” prize, Pew & Guggenheim Fellowships, and various book awards and medals from around the world. Dr. Safina is the first Endowed Professor for Nature and Humanity at Stony Brook University and is founding president of the not-for-profit Safina Center. Dr. Safina will host this journey throughout, offering insights on wild lands and wildlife, and humans’ relationship to the living world.
Dr. Jeffrey Rose - Oman, Speaker and Guide
Archaeologist Jeff Rose specializes in the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods of the Arabian Peninsula. Since 2002, he has directed the Dhofar Archaeological Project. His discoveries in the field of modern human origins have been featured in several documentaries. In recognition of his groundbreaking discoveries in southern Oman, Dr Rose was named one of National Geographic's 2012 Emerging Explorers. He will join us for two days and share his knowledge during our excursions together.
“You can’t put into words how unique the landscape here is. Arabia feels like this romantic lost world filled with mysterious ruins; it’s a living museum of artifacts. Everyone on Earth had ancestors who passed through this place.” - Dr Jeffrey Rose
Toby Sinclair - India, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Speaker and Guide
A long-time resident of India and former advisor on the Government of India Steering Committee on Protected Area Management, Mr. Sinclair has been a contributing writer and editor for numerous guide books on India and handled field productions for BBC documentaries in India and Sri Lanka. Hear insights on tiger conservation and the history of Ranthambore, archeology and culture of Sri Lanka, geology of the Seychelles, and the ancient biological links between India, the Seychelles and Africa.
Julius Ole Karia - Kenya, Maasai Guide and Speaker
Maasai pastoralist, naturalist guide, and conservationist Julius Ole Karia hails from Aitong in northern Masai Mara. He will accompany the group on optional walking excursions identifying beneficial plants, and introducing guests to Maasai culture.
Elizabeth Efua Sutherland - Ghana, Speaker
Ms. Sutherland is the Artistic Director of the Accra Theatre Workshop and a former artist in residence at the Google Cultural Institute in Paris. Her work explores the ways culture can shape identity and the impact that active cultural curation can potentially have on individual and national attitudes. Ms. Sutherland will speak to our group at Gallery 1957 in Accra.
Dr. Mohamed Said Mehahad - Morocco, Speaker
Dr. Mehahad’s expertise ranges from geography to sustainable tourism. His lecture will explore the kingdom of Morocco as an oasis of diverse history and ethnic heritage and deliver an introduction to Marrakech and the influence of different cultures on Moroccan architecture and customs.
