It is always important to understand the history of Newtown, which was the most productive district In the early stages of the Joburg gold rush in 1886, although the 1900s saw the inception of the booming era all around Johannesburg including Newtown. Newtown had four concentrated districts that were made up of (1) the market district (2) electrical district (3) transportation district and (4) the milling district.
