Introduction

14 Oct 2018 - 23 Oct 2018

For more than twenty years Tony McKeith has lived, worked and promoted wildlife safaris to the Kafue encouraging awareness for this little known yet incredible wildlife destination. For Tyrone McKeith, the Kafue National Park has been his home for over a decade. First brought to Zambia's Kafue age five by his father (Tony), the passion instilled in Tyrone from those early years led him to work on safari during school holidays and to him eventually gaining a degree at the world renowned Durrell Institute of Conservation Ecology. Immediately returning to Zambia after graduation Tyrone has lived and worked in the bush ever since.

You are invited to join Tony and Tyrone on a relaxed, informal and yet deeply interesting safari that will uncover the incredibly varied wildlife that exists amongst the shady Miombo woodlands, on the seasonal Oxbow lagoons, along the clear waters of the Kafue River and on the vastness of the Busanga Plains.

You will stay at 3 contrasting safari camps including the sublime Kaingu River Lodge, Musekese Camp, Tyrone's home in the bush, (nominated in the 2017 safari awards Best Guiding Team in Zambia & Best New Camp in Zambia), and Ntemwa-Busanga (runner up in the Best Mobile Camp in Africa).

Using their bush skills and knowledge of wildlife movements and activity to generate the best possible wildlife sightings, ensuring you get the most from your safari. We hope to encounter many of the Kafue’s 19 species of antelope, including the breathtaking sight of literally thousands of graceful Red Lechwe on the plains. Rivers bubble with hippos, crocodiles bask on the banks. There is a healthy population of lions, leopards stalk the woodland shadows and are often seen from our safari boat. Wild dogs are here and sightings increase as the dry season passes.

Birds are a big part of any Kafue safari, with an impressive list of 500 species. There are at least two endemics, and lots of colourful species from kingfishers and finches to turacos and many large raptors.

During this safari you will never not be truly in the bush, wildlife can come through camp and there is always something to see so keep your cameras handy.

Days are not regimented and you will be offered a range of ideas to experience the bush in a variety of ways. Game drives are in open vehicles during the early part of the day and also in the late afternoon, staying out after dark to search out nocturnal species.

You will experience River Safaris in purpose-built boats, which produce some good leopard and lion sightings, the chance of seeing elephant feeding on the banks and with luck, playing or swimming across the river. Walking is one of the best ways to explore your surroundings with an emphasis on the smaller things that might be missed from a vehicle, but there is every chance of big game encounters!

Musekese has a viewing blind a short distance from camp and also for 2017 a tree house platform so that it is easily accessible, but far enough from camp to be appealing to game. An hour or two sitting quietly here is a wonderful way to absorb yourself in the bush.

This safari is limited to just 6 guests - Book now to join this unique safari and experience the Kafue with the people who know it best.
