Introduction

Zimbabwe is an outstanding destination for the keen conservationist and fans of African wildlife, with two of the national parks listed on Natural World Heritage Sites. You'll begin your journey in Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world, with plenty of opportunities for sight-seeing included in an itinerary bursting with informative experiences, a chance to see conservation in action, as well as the best parts of an African safari ranging from sundowners on the Zambezi to a dinner in the traditional Boma restaurant.

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's oldest and largest national park, with a large local population of elephants, as well as rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard and wild dogs. Natural water is scarce, and man-made watering holes are maintained using funds from donations, ensuring the wildlife of the area is well conserved. You will have a close-up opportunity to see how human intervention has made it possible for a large population of animals to survive in this environment. During your time in the area, you'll see how the full moon affects animal behaviour and spend time in the hide adjacent to the main camp waterhole.

The Matobo Hills are yet another World Heritage Site. You'll spend two nights here observing the rare black rhino, meeting the chief warden and spending the day with one of the founding guides of the Matobo Rhino Project (supported by Paignton Zoo) with the grand finale of sundowners on the graveside of Cecil John Rhodes.
