Introduction

The Masters Series:  ESCORTED POLAR BEAR & BIRDING SAFARI

Combine a remote wilderness eco-lodge and ground-level wildlife encounters, and you have a Polar Bear Safari like no other.

On this small group Polar Bear Safari – only available during the summer months – you will actually walk with polar bears, go beluga whale watching by zodiac or kayak and look for other Arctic wildlife, as well as a variety of migratory and shore birds.

Why? This Polar Bear Safari provides the perfect opportunity to witness and photograph polar bears at eye level in their natural environment and live to tell the tale!

Where? We will take you to a wildly remote and wildly unique wilderness ecolodge, located deep in the heart of polar bear country, 60 km north of Churchill near the Seal River estuary on the Hudson Bay coast in northern Manitoba, Canada. The lodge offers a family-run service with regionally inspired cuisine and has space for a maximum of 16 guests in 8 comfortable ensuite rooms.

What? Directly in the path of the polar bears as they walk up and down the coastline during the summer and fall, this location is ideal for viewing and photographing polar bears and other iconic Canadian wildlife, such as Arctic fox and hare, sik-siks (Arctic squirrels), many species of migratory and shore birds. It is located in a bay where thousands of beluga whales congregate every summer to feed and calve.

The fenced-in compound, viewing platforms and tower lend themselves to unique photography opportunities as wildlife approach to check out the sights, sounds and smells of the lodge.  Daily excursions are led by resident naturalist guides, who know the area like the back of their hand. They will share their expert knowledge and stories and take you into the heart of polar bear territory, so you’ll be in the right place at the right time – all while minimizing your impact on the environment.

Culinary: Enhance your polar bear safari with exquisite dining options, making your adventure even more memorable. Indulge in a culinary journey, where your dining experience features organic, locally sourced meats and fish, complemented by fresh fruits and vegetables from our orchard and gardens. Menus are built around Helen Webber and Marie Woolsey’s award-winning Blueberries and Polar Bears cookbook series, which has been the cornerstone of the dining experience for over 30 years.

Sustainability: Polar bear tourism works on multiple levels to increase awareness of the plight of polar bears and their environment, while also contributing to economic development and benefiting people in the surrounding communities. Sustainability is both a driving principle and a necessity at the lodge, which was built using mostly local lumber and recycled materials. Solar power supplies most energy. Food waste is composted, and all non-recyclable trash is flown to Churchill to be disposed of properly.  The emphasis is on leaving a light footprint: instead of using enclosed tundra vehicles, guests walk with the wildlife on most outings at the lodge.

Let the thrill of this Arctic summer safari and the experience of the unknown create life-long memories that will change you forever.
