Royal Natal National Park

Days 1 - 3

The Royal Natal National Park is home to one of KwaZulu-Natal's most spectacular attractions - the Amphitheatre- a dramatic cliff face that measures more than five kilometres. The Tugela Falls plunge over the edge of the escarpment, plummeting down approximately 1000 metres to the Royal Natal National Park below. A fantastic network of hiking trails meander through every part of the park, and range in difficulty from the leisurely Fairy Glen walk to the challenging hike up the Crack and down the Mudslide. Horse riding is another popular activity, as well as trout fishing in the dam, as well as in the Mahai and Thukela rivers. There are many picturesque spots perfect for picnicking and swimming. Don't miss the opportunity to go on a guided climb against the dramatic rock faces and soak up the incredible views of the Royal Natal National Park.

Cathedral Peak Nature Reserve

Days 3 - 7

The Cathedral Peak Nature Reserve is located in the Drakensberg Mountains in east-central South Africa, near its border with the northeastern region of Lesotho. This magnificent area is most easily accessed from the town of Winterton and boasts some of the country’s most scenic hiking and rock climbing opportunities. The nature reserve offers a range of trails of varying length and difficulty, including exploring the cave paintings of Ndedema Gorge and a route to the summit of Cathedral Peak itself. This challenging climb rewards hikers with views of some of the Drakensberg’s most prominent peaks, such as Giant’s Castle, the Bell and Cleft Peak. There is a four-star hotel located within the reserve, while day can soak up the incredible scenery along a network of magnificent trails.

Days 7 - 8

The Central Drakensberg is home to some formidable peaks including Monk's Cowl, Giant Castle Peak and Champagne Castle. The range rises to over 3000 metres in height and offers inspiring views and spectacularly scenic hikes. Known to the Zulus as the 'Barrier of Spears' and to the first European settlers as the 'Dragon's Mountains', the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg is one of eight South African UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as it holds unique significance as a natural resource and for the heritage of the ancient San rock paintings. For thousands of years the Central Drakensberg was home to the San people and they, in turn, left their record on the walls of numerous sandstone caves.
