Turrialba Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica and sister to IrazĂș Volcano, rises to 3,340 meters and offers spectacular views along with first-class birding opportunities. Birding along its slopes and into the higher cloud forest throughout the morning provides excellent chances to spot the Resplendent Quetzal, the mythical bird of Central America. Other Talamanca highland endemics and regional specialties that can be found include the Wrenthrush, Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Prong-billed Barbet, Buffy Tuftedcheek, and both Long-tailed and Black-and-yellow Silky-Flycatchers
