The 'Die Swartland', or "the Black-land" as it translates to, gathers its name from the type vegetation known as" Renosterveld" again a dutch/afrikaans translation meaning "Rhinoceros-field" due to the darkened plant life found in this region. Ask any South African about Wellington and the first thing they probably may mention is brandy, as this area is reputable for brandy production hosting a number of distilleries notably, Oude Wellingtion Brandy. Wine though,in this area is as equally as good, as well as offering a more tranquil setting within the valley and surrounding mountains
