Trip Summary

Ticket only - Shared basis.

This Sub-Antarctic Continental ice cap, known as the "Third Pole", extends over 60,000 sq.km (23,000 sq. miles) and is home to several major glaciers along the Patagonian Andes.

Once at Puerto Bajo de las Sombras we will board our boat and get ready to cross Lake Rico; we will reach the opposite shore after approximately a 20-minute navigation in front of the southern wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier, an exciting voyage navigating through ice blocks, recently carved away from the glaciers, and travelling along the ice walls which tower above us as we sail.

Expert guides will be waiting to welcome us when we arrive at a captivating, uninhabited beach, where we then make our way to a small shelter, before taking the next steps in this spellbinding journey. We will be divided into groups (maximum 20 persons per group) before heading out along the lake’s shore and towards the edge of the glacier, we will receive crampons and helmets, which will aid in a more comfortable trekking experience.  Once on the ice, we will receive a brief safety talk and begin the walk. We will then set out on an unforgettable adventure (around one hour and a half) across this fascinating landscape, entering another world of the most incredible blue ice formations, hidden crevasses and gentle streams winding through gullies and pooling into small lagoons.

The level of trekking here is considered to be ‘moderate’, and although the ice surface is irregular, it is also firm and perfectly safe. Having conquered our trek on the glacier, we will walk on the area around the glacier and the side moraine, from where we will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of Glaciar Perito Moreno, the mountains and the lake. Later, we will return along a path crossing the exuberant Bosque Andino Patagónico, completing the THREE-HOUR WALK ON THE LAKE COAST, MORAINE, ICE AND WOODS (remember: it is about one hour on the glacier’s ice).  After arriving at the shelter, we will be served hot drinks and a souvenir. Shortly after, you will embark to return to “Bajo de las Sombras” port, but before departing you will be able to watch the huge walls of the glacier from the ship.
