Trip Summary

Enjoy 2 nights accommodation in the independently owned Windsor Hotel and Self-Catering Apartments stand proudly on the edge of Hermanus’s breathtaking Walker Bay.

Southern Right whales have been breeding and feeding here for centuries (July – November) and our guests have been returning, generation after generation, to delight in this spectacle. The 120-year-old Windsor, near the town centre and its rich variety of restaurants, galleries and shops, has been modernised but steadfastly retains its family atmosphere with home-from-home hospitality.

A stunning 120km drive from Cape Town brings you to the famous champagne air of Hermanus, where you can relax in comfort at the venerable Windsor or enjoy a wide variety of gentle or adventurous activities.

Our Hotel Bedrooms are located in the original building of the hotel. Our Sea Facing Rooms feature a panoramic view of Walker Bay. Beds can be configured as a king or twin at your request. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom and ground floor rooms feature a small patio. Free WiFi and parking is available for all our hotel guests.

Our apartments feature a spectacular ocean view. We have 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom apartments available. Each apartment has 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom has a sea view and an en-suite bathroom while the remaining rooms have a partial town view. The lounge has a sea view and opens up onto a balcony. The apartment also includes a fully equipped kitchen, free WiFi and safe parking for all our guests.

Activities:

14km Cliff Path Walk:

Where else can you traverse an entire town along its coast?  With its extraordinary diversity of scenery, rocky coves, sandy beaches and secluded forest glades, the Cliff Path is unequalled anywhere.  The conservation value of the coastal area has been recognised by its inclusion in 2000 into the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. The Cliff Path attracts thousands of whale-watchers every year for the best shore-based whale watching in the world, but not only whale watching may be enjoyed on the Cliff Path - it is also a nature lover's paradise.

Whale Watching:
Hermanus has been recognized by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) as one of the 12 Best Whale Watching Destinations in the World. The best time to enjoy whale watching in Hermanus is between July and November either from land, by boat or from the air via a scenic flight. The whale viewing during the months of July and August vary from year to year with regards to how many whales are present in Walker Bay and along the coast; however you are almost guaranteed of seeing whales in September, October and November. For those with a more adventurous spirit, a guided sea kayaking trip promises to get the adrenaline going and offers a unique opportunity to watch whales and explore the magnificent coastline.

Shark Cage Diving:
Great White Shark Cage Diving in Hermanus is a 365 day-a-year activity (weather permitting). Sharks are spotted all year round. There is no need for scuba or snorkelling experience or equipment, as it is all surface viewing and novices are very welcome. You pop on a wet suit provided by the operator, grab a mask and jump into the cage, which is 3 metres high; 2 metres under water and 1 metre above it. When a shark approaches, all you do is hold your breath and duckdown into the lower section of the submerged cage. Below are a few Shark Cage Diving operators in the Hermanus and Gansbaai area.

Hemel & Aarde Valley Wine Route:
On the way towards Hermanus along the R44, a quick left turn onto the R320 at The Wine Village will find you travelling along the stunningly picturesque Hemel & Aarde Valley, which is a beautiful route and is a perfect way to experience a different side of the Overberg. This road is also an alternative route to Caledon, linking Hermanus and the surrounding areas to this town. Once a gravel road, it is now fully tarred, making the 35 km trip to Caledon a winding and enjoyable route that passes by several different wine and entertainment establishments.
