Trip Summary

Get off the beaten track with an adrenaline-fueled activity on the sand dunes followed by exploring this beautiful region with its abundance of hiking trails, expansive coastline with pristine beaches and rich fauna and flora.

The Overberg is the best place in the world to view these 40-60 tons creatures from land and our specialist guides will take you down to the De Kelders rocks and give you a whale watching experience of a lifetime! However, for those who prefer a complete marine experience of the Marine Big5, which includes the whales, dolphins, African Penguins, Cape Fur Seals, and surface viewing of the Great White Shark.

Today is an exciting excursion out in the Overberg exploring the sand dunes in Bettys Bay. The Sand Dune in Betty`s Bay is considered amongst sandboarding professionals as one of the best dunes in Africa. With spectacular views from the dune, it's hard not to feel like you're in another world. The Dune has an estimated height of 230 Meters and makes for an impressive run downhill.  Rest assured we do however not start with you at the top but rather gradually work up the dune as your experience improves. We also find that most guests prefer to sit on the sandboard compared to standing.  Sandboarding is a true adventure experience.

After an active morning, we will then head to Stony Point in Betty’s Bay we visit a massive penguin colony, watching the amusing antics of these funny creatures. On this stretch of rocky terrain, we will also be looking out for Dassies (rock rabbits) and a number of seabirds.

For lunch, we will enjoy a Wild Gourmet Picnic along the way at one of our favourite secluded spots.

This afternoon we venture to small villages, perched on the cliffs above the bay. From an elevated vantage point you have a birds-eye view of the whales, and may possibly even see some calves. After thousands of years the crash of waves has carved a series of underground caves into the cliffs and these contain a glittering array of stalactites and stalagmites as well as ocean-filled rock pools, perfect for swimming.

Meander your way back to Cape Town via Sir Lowry’s mountain pass with its stunning views over the Atlantic and - on a clear day - endless views towards the city. We will stop along the way to be on the look out for whales!
