Escape the city and head into the wild beauty of the Overberg for a thrilling day of outdoor adventure. Ride fat bikes through coastal fynbos, soar down sandy dunes, and cruise along the beach with views of Walker Bay’s marine life. Explore sea caves and tidal pools or enjoy a walk through the lush Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. With mountain passes, coastal cliffs, and hidden natural gems, this is a day designed for active explorers and nature lovers alike.
We will start our day by leaving Cape Town and heading over Sir Lowry's Pass, with its glorious mountain vistas, onto De Kelders where we will experience a Fat Biking Adventure.
These bikes are a new revelation to the Mountain Biking world, allowing people to ride on terrain that previously seemed impossible, even with just the basic cycling skill. Our cycle will lead us down a sandy horse trail through the Fynbos before reaching the Dunes where your guide will fully brief each rider so that all members of the group feel confident in experiencing the unique downhill run. Having conquered the Dunes we will continue along the beach, keeping an eye out for the Marine Wildlife that inhabits the Bay.
Returning to our Adventure Utility Vehicle (AUV) our journey will head inland to Stanford. For lunch, we will stop at one of the lovely local restaurants in Stanford. The Tasting Room restaurant has a reputation for relaxation with an emphasis on fresh and inventive food of an exceptionally high standard. The chalkboard menu changes daily according to what is locally fresh and available, including items from our own vegetable garden.
In the afternoon, we explore the cliffside trails of Hermanus, a town perched high above Walker Bay. From this elevated vantage point, spot southern right whales (in season), or descend to explore the ancient limestone sea caves carved by centuries of crashing waves. These caves are home to tidal rock pools, ideal for a refreshing dip if conditions allow.
Our final stop is the lush Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty’s Bay. Nestled between mountains and sea, this biodiverse haven offers forest paths, waterfalls, and fynbos-covered hills. A walk through the Khoi-San garden introduces you to the traditional uses of local plants for food and healing.
We return to Cape Town, via the scenic coastal route which will allow you perfect vistas of this spectacular coastline.
