The Bo-Kaap represents an area in the city of Cape Town once known as the Cape Malay quarters, and a community that influenced South African cuisine immensely.
It is a bright and colourful area that is one of the most photographed places in Cape Town. Enjoy a walk through its streets gaining insight into the historical buildings, its people and cuisine rich in spices (visit a spice shop if available), before heading into a local hosts home.
“Aunties” from the local communities are known for being amazing hosts and cooking up a storm. You'll be welcomed with some traditional eats and a drink, & then learn how rotis, samoosas and other local food is prepared, you’ll assist in making your lunch dish, possibly a Cape Malay curry or a bobotie. Once you're all done, you will get to sit down and enjoy what you've helped make with your host. Its okay to use your hands, and lick your fingers afterwards!
