Chakana Reserve (Hacienda Antisanilla) is an important Andean Condor nesting site. Up on the cliffs, up to 40 individual Andean Condors have been registered. The estimated population of wild Condors in Ecuador is only 150 individuals, so Chakana represents an important protected area for the survival of this species. It’s possible to observe condors from Isco Lookout with a spotting scope, and also closer up from atop the cliffs.
Also, keep your eyes open for the Andean Spectacled Bear. With some luck, Chakana’s pristine paramo habitat can be a great place to spot them roaming for food.
Other Fauna and Birds to look out for include: Mountain Tapir, Puma, Andean Fox, Peregrine Falcon, Curiquingue (Curungulated ), Great Horned Owl, Silvery Grebe, Andean Ibis, Hummingbirds (Giant, Sword-billed, Andean Sunbeam, black-tailed trainbearer, Sparkling Violetear, & more).

- 07:00 Arrival at Antisanilla – Chakana Reserve. Enjoy a full day of flexible exploration on the trails with your naturalist guide. Places of interest include: Observation deck "Peñón del Isco", Condor Hideout, Mini interpretation center, Muertepungo Lagoon, Lava flow from Chakana volcano, Wetlands for migratory bird observation (October to March).
Early to Mid Afternoon: Return to Quito to be dropped off back at your hotel.
