Port Elizabeth has a history bound up with that of the arrival of the 1820 British settlers, and the remnants of that pivotal time still lingers. It was established as a halfway point between the Cape Colony and the Eastern settlements, and is still to this day a busy fishing and port town. It’s known as the ‘Friendly City’ and also the “Windy City. Port Elizabeth, or PE as locals call it shows many signs of being a British settlement originally, with Victorian style housing and wide open streets.
We’ll explore the many memorable sights of the City, and enjoy its superb examples of exquisite Victorian and Edwardian architectures. We’ll travel along the beach front, past the harbour and into the old town, with a visit to Settler’s Park and St Georges Park, proud home of the Eastern Province Cricket.
With its beautiful beaches and strong sense of cultural past, Port Elizabeth is a superb destination for a sizeable glimpse of South Africa’s journey to today.
