Trip Summary

A day spent tracking the Marine Big 5 (The Southern Right Whale, Shark, Dolphin, Seal, and Penguin) along the R44 before heading inland to explore the Stanford Mountain Trails and visit local farm stalls and artisans.

A day spent tracking the Marine Big 5 (The Southern Right Whale, Shark, Dolphin, Seal, and Penguin). The best time of the year for Whale viewing (which is seasonal), is from June up until November.

As you head out of Cape Town in the morning, your guide will drive along the scenic Clarence Drive route that hugs the coast line all the way from False Bay through to Walker Bay. This is a breathtaking route which allows for many photographic stops along the way.

Arriving at Stony Point in Betty’s Bay we visit a massive penguin colony, watching the amusing antics of these funny creatures. On this stretch of rocky terrain, we will also be looking out for Dassies (rock rabbits) and a number of seabirds.

For Lunch, we will head to the outskirts of Hermanus in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (which translates to: Heaven and Earth) to the La Vierge Restaurant, which commands beautiful views out onto the wine valley.

Our next stop is the quaint village of Standford, a place of beautiful cottages, antique shops and artisan cafes gathered around a grassy square. We return to Cape Town via Sir Lowry’s mountain pass with its stunning views over the Atlantic and - on a clear day - endless views towards the city.
