Heading out of Cape Town we will take the scenic R44 that hugs the coast line all the way from False Bay to Walker Bay. Your Marine Big 5 Adventure begins here, with a good chance of spotting whales and dolphin en route. We will stop at Betty’s Bay to enjoy see the Penguins before heading to Hermanus.

If the day is about whales, whales and more whales then you cannot beat Bientang’s Cave for lunch. Whilst it does not offer the most boutique dining experience it is certainly unique and there is no way to get closer to the whales and sea for lunch. Created out of a traditional cave which was previously inhabited by a Koi Strandloper of the same name, the restaurant spills out onto the rocks of Walker Bay in Hermanus, where whale watching is the preferred local pastime. Whilst seafood features highly on the menu there are plenty for non seafood eaters.

Leaving the popular Hermanus behind, we head to one of the small villages perched on the cliffs 30 minutes outside Hermanus. It is here that you can experience some of the best land based whale watching in the world as Whales often sidle up right underneath the steep cliffs especially when they have young calves, giving you a bird’s eye view.

Experience the Flight of the Giants- African Wings use planes that make minimum noise and emit low frequency to allow the best airborne view of whales possible. Carrying a maximum at 3 at a time on a 1 hour 10 minute scenic flight over the whales, sharks and Southernmost tip of Africa. This is the ultimate way to whale watch.

We will then return to Cape Town over Salaries Pass.
