We depart the city for an area of extraordinary beauty and spectacular scenery – the Cape Winelands.

Famous for its 400-year-old winemaking tradition with a heritage that lives on in beautifully preserved estates, the area also offers some of South Africa’s best restaurants, gorgeous architecture, historic monuments, art galleries, museums and fascinating shops. In the historic town of Stellenbosch we’ll visit the Stellenbosch Village Museum with its collection of exquisite houses of the 1700s and the 1800s, all restored to their original state.

We then move onto Boschendal, to experience a classic Cape Dutch Manor House with its original outbuildings set on a farm originally granted to a French Huguenot in the 1690s. This property was owned in the late 1800s by Cape mining magnate Cecil John Rhodes. Just down the road is Solms-Delta Wine Estate’s Museum van de Caab, where we discover the lives of slaves who were brought to the Cape under Dutch and British rule, and emancipated in 1834.

After lunch at Fyndraai restaurant on the estate, we visit the Franschhoek Motor Museum on the L’Ormarins Estate, offering a special opportunity to review 100 years of motoring history.
