Trip Summary

Experience the historic Constantia Cape wine route with a personalised guide who will take you on a Winelands cycling tour for the morning.

Guests are met at the historic Groot Constantia Estate. We mountain bike through the lush Constantia Valley where Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel, started the wine industry of South Africa dating back to the 17th century.  You will be introduced to a full array of the valley’s award winning wines, and you will learn about the region’s rich history.

From here we have an option of cycling on tarred roads through the suburbs to the next wine estate or taking a newly opened entry level mountain biking trail through the Constantia Greenbelt. We cover about 15-20 km on fairly flat terrain with max 120 meters of climbing in the duration of the tour.

Along the route you will pass a Kramat (mosque) built for the slaves that the Dutch East India Company imported from South East Asia. The route meanders through the sophisticated Constantia suburb that has some of the finest structures of the Cape Dutch architecture. In the tour you will indulge with some of the most well-balanced wines that South Africa is proud of. Vineyards like Buitenverwachting, Groot Constantia, Constantia Uitsig and Steenberg will open their doors, and cellars, for us. Come, experience the oldest wine region of South Africa – on a bicycle!
