Kayak Ride to Estancia El Rincon
The Santa Cruz River was once traveled by the renowned explorer of Patagonia, Charles Darwin. Now, we offer the opportunity to experience his journey through a kayak ride along the river. This adventure takes place approximately 40km away from Calafate and lasts for 90 minutes. The ride concludes at Estancia El Rincon, where a delicious lunch awaits.

We will depart in 4x4 vehicles along Route 40 to reach the Santa Cruz River. Once we arrive, we will receive a technical talk and equip ourselves with dry suits before beginning our downstream paddle. Along the way, we will witness stunning geological formations and a diverse range of fauna, which inspired Darwin during his legendary journey through these lands. After traveling 15km downstream, we will arrive at Estancia El Rincon, where lunch will be served on the river banks. We will return to El Calafate in the afternoon.

NOTES: This tour operates year-round.
- Level of difficulty: demanding (kayak experience required)
- Kayak ride: 15 km/ 9 miles (90 minutes).
- 4 x 4 ride: 40 km/ 25 miles to go and 65 km/40 miles to come back.
- Sample lunch menu: focaccia with aubergine dip, “provoleta” with tomato, salads, steak “a la criolla”. Dessert: chocolate mousse. Drinks are included.
- For those who do not want to paddle can be taken to the estancia in 4x4 and have lunch with the rest of the group. In this case, participants pay 50% of the rate.
- Minimum age: 12 years old.
- The excursion may be cancelled in case of strong winds.
