Trip Summary

Upon departure, we will take Provincial Route 11 in the direction of the Magallanes Peninsula. Once in the port “Bajo de las Sombras”, we will board to cross Lake Rico, and after approximately 20 minutes of navigation, we will arrive at the opposite coast in front of the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon disembarking, you will be greeted by the mountain guides, who will take you to a shelter provided with sanitary facilities. From there, a short walk will begin along the coast of the lake (approximately 1Km), which includes a talk about glaciology in general and the Perito Moreno Glacier in particular. Upon reaching the edge of the glacier, the guides will form subgroups of a maximum of 20 people each, and will put on crampons and helmets. Once on the ice, you will receive a brief safety briefing and begin the walk. Always with the help of the mountain guides you will enjoy this natural ice paradise. The walk is of medium difficulty and has many ups and downs; The tour on the glacier lasts approximately an hour and a half and during the course you will be able to see a variety of typical formations of a glacier such as cracks, sinkholes, seracs, lagoons, etc.

At the end of the ice walk, you will return to the refuge along a walkway that crosses the lush Patagonian Andean forest. Shortly afterward they will board to return to the starting port. After a transfer by land to the walkways (approximately 7 km), we can observe the walls of the glacier from its main balcony or its different self-guided trails. Return to El Calafate.
